i didnt say take the paint off
the clear coat has failed so it needs to be sanded off , to make it all work and look right it will need a light coat of basecoat

2000 isnt enough of a key
sand it back with 600 then 800 , might as well aim to remove as much clear as you can
then it will need a couple of light coats of colour , then straight on with the clear

jet washing also works well on carpet mats , dump some hot soapy water on em for a while then blast at a sensible distance

depends how greedy you want to be i guess
smaller fake modern ones go for £25 or more , so id say £30-40 easy , maybe more if youre in no hurry and prepared to post them etc
they're cool though , got some old 7up and coke crates myself

if you can put up some pics off it at tdc we can have a look to check as does sound like timing
otherwise get a mate to crank it over while you mess with the dizzy

shouldnt affect it when cranking , the vac comes from the engine running so could be about right

tipex should have made it close enough to start
report back if all those marks line up
so it needs to be #1 piston(cam belt end) at the top , lower and cam pulley marks lined up , and the rotor arm notch too

crank the engine over with a socket on the bottom pulley until the pulley marks line up for tdc top dead center , you can confirm this if you want by poking something clean in the number 1 (cambelt end) plug hole and checking its at the top of its travel
then loosen the dizzy and turn it until the notch on the housing lines up with the center of the rotor arm
that should be close enough to get it running , once warmed up it needs fine tuning with a strobe light
