Why don't all the "curse word" car owners clubs- clubs for the Marina, Allegro, Lada e.t.c offer to supply the BBC with scrappers to destroy. When the BBC need another marina they can just pick up the phone and have one to smash asap without having to trawl autotrader and ebay. Clarkson can get his fix of classic car smashing and a good example of the smashed car lives to see another day. Sounds dumb but I think it could work... possibly... It was suggested some time ago, mainly because we can lay our hands on cars 'beyond redemption', but, as is the way with the BBC, they know better.....

That pile of cars is the same pile they jumped the VP allegro into.... I recognised the princess! I'm confused about the marina they killed this week. Id read that TG had bought a blue rotter, resprayed it and used it as stunt double so they didnt damage the good one they bought for the communist cars episode. I'm guessing the one in this weeks episode was the rotter they bought and they really did burn the good one out. Why go to the trouble of lying about it? Apparently the blue one was very rotten and bought from a banger driver who thought it was too rusty to race..... it must have been hanging! Theres absolutley nothing wrong with killing odd rotten old nails.. Actually its quite good fun That tesla looked awesome, I thought all electric cars were like milkfloats. Amazing! Why did they lie about it? They're prats, thats why. We'd rumbled they'd used a 33,000 mile, taxed and MOT'd car, smashed it and burnt it out (thus denying any further use of components for anyone else....) when they had in their posession a sh*tter they could have trashed without a second glance. They proved it tonight. They got rumbled and as they do say, 'repeat a story enough and its accepted as the truth'. Sorry, you've been rumbled.... Nevermind, think of all the FREE PUBLICITY we've got, FOR FREE! ;D

I am a born and bred classic car enthusiast, 29 years and still at it. I laughed my bits off when they dropped the piano on the marina. Why? Because I thought they would get their own back at the marina forum thread which, to be frank, was well over the top. They did it in fine style! It is a shame the marina, jag, princess, minor, tina and what ever else were in that stack were wasted like that, someone could have got a good days racing out of them!! 8) They didn't get their own back, pal, they just got us a shedload of FREE PUBLICITY! FOR FREE! ON TV!!!! I laughed as well......

Tell ya what, I don't care that we're being slagged off, it's been the best weeks FREE PUBLICITY for Marinas since the 'Rarest Car' stuff came out..... Cheers JC! (He reminds me of a manager I had at my last but one place of work - I'd spent yonks trying to get full Union membership amongst the engineers, then he did something he thought was really clever and I got it overnight!) We had a tirade from some dope 'within the BBC' about the fact they'd bought two cars and swapped them for the burning scene, even going to the lengths of respraying it - clearly they lie like cheap Japanese wristwatch. There looked to be some interesting cars in the stack they killed off, the Mk3 'Tina certainly looked 'snapped' before the jump, I was surprised to see a Minor in there, Ovlov 340, looked like either a Princess or Peugeot on top, Montego right at the front and the usual 90's tat. I've done 120mph down that runway in a Saab before now, on Driven..... (I know, that's no claim to fame...). As for the Tesla, it's thanks to that bunch of cnuts the company I worked for ended up in Administration, still owe them about £1.5M in development costs......

Here is another image of the Yema SQJ6450. It seems that random letters and numbers are popular name system for cars in the Peoples Republic of China. Now then, the 'random' numbers and letters you quote are the Governmental codes for these vehicles; the Morris Ital, when 'Chineseified' (not a word but you know what I mean) became (and waits for curse word-take) the CAC6450. The first three letters are the area code for the production unit, the first number is the type of vehicle (6 is actually a bus.....) and the 450 is the length class in CM. So that thingy was made at SQJ, is a bus 4.5m long. Eventually they come up with some odd-sounding name.....

I've got a 216 that may be getting close to a HGF (67000 miles....), but the most important thing on these is to keep an eye on the coolant level, especially in cold weather and short trips. Squeeze the top rad hose (cold) and if you can hear gurgling in the head, top it up instantly! The upper limit of the expansion tank isn't much above the top of the head, so any loss will start hotspots. Also, let the engine warm through properly before giving it beans (and I don't just mean the temp gauge moves.....); it is as close to a motorbike engine in construction as you can get and all of it needs to be thoroughly warmed through. That tip I got from a guy who's company ran three MG ZR rally cars, and after four years of hard thrash none had had an HGF! They just need a bit more TLC than most drivers are prepared to give them. Top choice, though.....

Heard them both before except the 3 door was a marina and the 3 cylinder was a Vauxhall but then it was at a ford meeting so they would be telling tales of woe about other manufacturers. Sad storey and I do wonder how many of us have been close to this sad end, I know when I was single I did few questionable running repairs and had a few close escapes but not since me kids have been about How could you have a 3-door Marina, the bodyshells are completely different? (4-dr Saloon, 2-dr Coupe) It is worrying that the phrase 'modified car' crept into this, I would more have gone with 'bodge-up'. Terrible what happened...... poor kids.

That Marina was a show car. It had tax and MOT until next year, was almost rust-free and had a very sound interior and new panels. What has hacked off a lot of people was that if TG wanted to trash a Marina, the Club could have let them have a rotter on its last legs, but no, they got hold of a good one and creamed it. It's not so much the fact it got smashed up, but burning it guaranteed the loss of the good interior and panels which could have gone on to sort out someone else's car. T*ss*rs. The best it was Clarkson's voice was fubar'd - shame it isn't the rest of him

Aye, 'tis me with the Rostyles.... 10cwt vans have a version of the older MGB diff and axle fitted with stronger bearings (which is under the GT...) which have 4.5" PCD and 7/16unf wheel studs, MGB's are 1/2" and Marinas are 3/8" (no, I don't know why either.....). MGB axles are actually quite narrow and the Marina fitted ones have slightly different offset to allow for this. Normal wheel offset is 13mm. All parts are interchangable; the GT has late Ital upper arms, telescopic dampers, Mk2 uprights and calipers, Van hubs and discs at the front and the MGB axle with new sping plates and anti-roll bar fittings at the back, BUT the proper van axle doesn't need a bespoke shortened prop to fit.... the only downside is a colossally high ratio of either 4.111:1 or 4.555:1 (the MG axle is 3.9:1, 1.8 axle 3.636:1 so I'm 10%-ish fast at the speedo..).

I'm just off Elm Tree Road.... you'll see the car in the drive or my GT round me mam's (or my boy's Metro there too!). Usually open for a chat and tea (or coffee)...

If you're using proper polycarb sheet you'd be better bolting/rivetting them on as polycarb doesn't bond very well with anything - having used 3mm sheet for machine guards over 16 years I've tried just about everything and it don't stick very well.

I've always had a soft spot for the old Orion, especially Mk1s. I remember watching trainloads of 'em pass through Ipswich from Harwich before they were announced and being laughed from the pub for mentioning an "Escort with a boot"... boy did I have the last laugh there! A work colleague managed to collar a 1.6Ghia as his company car; many a time I'd follow it as it twitched its ar53 round corners (the old Ford Hop) - someone else in the workshop got one and they actually had a punch-up over the fact one had heated door mirrors and the other hadn't.... sad bstards ;D
