Is there such a thing? Now it looks like I'm keeping the volvo I'm getting cracking on finishing my original plans for it. I'm going to extend the wheel arches slightly using some polycarb sheet stuff. As for attaching them to the car I have two options... rivet.. but I don't want the rivets showing so is there such a thing as flush fit ones or would I have to filler over them? The second option is I glue/fibreglass them on (possible as they will be following the line of original arches so could have them overlap and glue them to the original angle.) Thanks in advance.. Joe

You can get countersunk rivets that will sit almost flush if you countersink the hole for them. They make coloured ones that will look nice and neat.

Oooo cool, any idea where from and how deep the counter sink has to be... my arch material is likely to be 3mm max but more likely 2mm. Cheers Joe

Cheers Joe You'll struggle then I think - they would need the countersink to be 3 or 4mm deep, the action of pulling the rivet on would more than likely cause the arch to split. You can get interestingly coloured (or plain black) normal rivets, pr perhaps use some anodised ally dome head bolts and stick a nut on the other side? Use motorcycle screen screws or something? highriders.co.uk/Screen-Screw-Kits-pr-108.htmlLike those, but find some cheaper! EDIT: I suppose if you are just going to use bolts, you could get countersunk ones and don't overtighten them. Use threadlock though or they will fall out

Mmmm now thats an idea, just wondering if it will grate against what I have planned for the rest of the car... exterior trim removed and smoothed.. the arches are not going to be huge like on that 505gti (sorry forgot whose it is) more like an extra inch following the original angle to cover slightly wider wheels and allow me to trim the arch back enough to stop rubbing. I've been using These countersunk rivets, which have quite a shallow head - haven't got one to hand but I'd guess the countersink is only 1mm

sorry, should have made it a bit more obvious.
anyway, just measured the depth of the countersink on the rivets and it's 1.6mm so it might be a bit borderline using it on 2mm material

If you can get a counter sunk peel rivet that may help as the put less pressure on than a standard rivet. Other option is to look for a bonding agent called teresson, we use it in the trade it is a two pack compound and trust me this stuff will bond anything.

Can you not use tiger seal or silka flex to glue the buggers on, it is structural strength stuff

That was my alternative idea to be honest... something very sticky.. had originally thought about fibreglassing them on... think i'll probably go for the glue and a lot of clamps option... fingers crossed, when i find some material all will work out!

If you're using proper polycarb sheet you'd be better bolting/rivetting them on as polycarb doesn't bond very well with anything - having used 3mm sheet for machine guards over 16 years I've tried just about everything and it don't stick very well.
