How do people get on with chopped/lowered springs on em come MOT time?
Presumably if the shocks are long then the springs drop out of their seats when they're unloaded?

I used to have one, and really wished I'd been brave enough to break out the grinder and give it some stick. I've been tempted to buy another, and wondered, as this was the first skoda produced after joining the VAG family, if they shared any parts, such as springs as lowering kits for polos are ten-a-penny. So having searched on VAGCAT for part numbers, I came up with this: Front Spring Felicia 1.3 6U0411105G Rear Spring Felicia all 6U9511115C Front Spring mk2/3 Polo 871411105B Rear Spring mk2/3 Polo 871511115A From the similarity of the part numbers, I would guess that the springs are the same, although I could be wrong. I know the front shocks are different, as on the Polo the steering drag link is part of the shock body, and on the Skoda it's cast into the hub carrier. If you found all that a bit boring, here's a photoshop for your trouble:

I've just been doing general tidying jobs on this over the past few weeks. So far: I've rebuilt all the locks so they all open on one key. Put green bulbs in the rear indies so they don't flash quite so red! Re hung the front bumper so it's straight. Put a new gas strut on the bootlid. Bought and fit new door cappings to replace the old cracked ones. Stripped and rebuilt the front struts, due to the front end feeling very hard. Front shocks are goosed Reset the tracking roughly using the axle stands and string method Still to do: Buy and fit coilovers Find some steels for use while I refurb the Schmidts Find a Tonneau cover for the hood in black - narrowly missed out on a couple, now struggling to find one. Get some UK pressed plates to replace the naff ones on it. I might fit a central locking kit to it too. I gave it some daily duties last week, got a bit bored of the diesel Passat, and the Auto cabby is a dream in traffic

What a properly lovely fleet you've got, really like the exterior/interior combo on the GTL. Seemingly an endless stash of wheels too!
I had the same problem finding a back box for my old CL, I ended up butchering one off a later scala to get it through the test. My MOT man was very complimentary of mine too!
Centre cap number 2 for me please.

Yeah as said above if the clutch hydraulics were at fault the clutch would struggle to disengage. I'd say almost definitely the clutch plate. I changed mine in situ, took the floor panels out, took off the propshaft, undid the bellhousing bolts and pulled the box back by hand, left it resting on the crossmember.

I've tried this on the rear beam brackets on my scirocco. Left it for over a week, and didn't get anywhere near those results. Electrolysis is the better option in my experience, there was a thread explaining how to do it using a battery charger a few months back.

Ha! Very true, my series 2a is on its 3rd rear crossmember! I've replaced all the rear tub outriggers since I've had it. Perhaps some kind of spray bar arrangement from the transfer box would work?

Depends if it's using gearbox oil or just engine oil?
If there's oil spraying out down the back, my guess would be the oil breather, which is very prone to getting gunged up on those engines. If it's the rocker cover gasket the oil would gather on top of the inlet manifold.

If any of them have reg plates on them, you can write away to the DVLA and ask for the registered keeper. However obviously it will not tell you whose land they're on, and if in the eyes of the law you have any claim to the vehicles.
I wrote away for the owner an old Montego I found (left in a tumble down garage that I rented), got an address, knocked on the owner's door and he told me I was welcome to it! Unfortunately in my case the hiab boys noticed it about a week later and stole the bloody thing in the middle of the night.

I would do mate, but I've got plans for mine!
I guess if you had the bits lying about, you can't argue with that, plus if you're thinking what I'm thinking you're thinking then your plans should be pretty cool too!

^^bike carbs have become scene taxed though, unlike cheap as chips su carbs Depends where you get em from! My tip would be avoid Ebay, and find a bike breaker. I put my complete setup together including carbs, pump and manifold for about £50

another option for you is the 1.6 8v aee engine as found in mk4 polos, some skoda felicias and possibly some mk3 golfs. the 1.6 will push out over 100 bhp running on polo gt fuel injection, although there is a polo on clubpolo r/roaded with 98bhp running just a 4 branch, larger throttle body and a few other basic mods on std 1.6 injection system. Sorry to hijack, but does the AEE engine have a crossflow head?

Nice work this mate, an inventive solution to the problem! Can't help thinking for the amount of effort you've gone to, you could have chucked on a set of bike carbs

Apologies for cluttering your thread, but I was born in Ibbenburen, about 60km away from you! Not been back since I was a nipper, really should visit (although my old man says there's not much to see) ... I drive through there every day to work... and I grew up in Cleveleys and Preston...small world eh! ;D Wow! Small world indeed!
