Hi guys, In a bid to get the number of cars working ratio up I went down to my lockup to get the landy started. After about 4 months of sitting it had left its mark on the floor in the form of most of its oil. Checked and there was enough, so started it. Started fine and run great, but when I gave it a run round the block the clutch was like a greased up weasel if you accelerated quickly. It was in tip top condition before it was left, so I'm unsure why its gone like this. Asked a friend and he said its due to there not being enough oil. Doesn't sound right to be honest, but I'm not going to argue. Does this sound right? Any help would be much apreciated

Is it hydraulic or cable? I fit's cable then it's probaly a stretched cable and needs adjusting/replacing. If it's hydraulic then it could be the seals, ot the fluid may have turned hydroscopic (useless)

The lack of oil in the engine could not directly cause the clutch to slip so your friend is wrong on that point. But if the oil was leaking into the bell housing & getting on to the clutch that could be the problem.
Or as daveyboy says it could just be simply an issue with the clutch, Landies are all hydraulic IRC so it either needs bleeding or the fluid changing.

clutch hydraulic faults on landrovers (and pretty much everything else) cause the clutch to stick on (or not lift properly) rather than holding it off and causing slip. I'd go with oil on the clutch plate if it was all in order when parked up

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Yeah as said above if the clutch hydraulics were at fault the clutch would struggle to disengage. I'd say almost definitely the clutch plate. I changed mine in situ, took the floor panels out, took off the propshaft, undid the bellhousing bolts and pulled the box back by hand, left it resting on the crossmember.

Check to see if the wading plug is still screwed into the bottom of the bell housing,if theres oil weeping out of it then your crankshaft oil seel has gone. The only cure is to remove the gearbox and flywheel and replace it along with a new clutch kit.Does it slip under load or when lifting off after changing gear cos it may just be sticking if its been standing.

^ Its slipping only under load. If you accelerate slowly its fine, its just if you accelerate hard. If you ease off a bit it will stop slipping until you accelerate hard again. I will be needing the landy to do some towing so I need to sort it as I can imagine pulling the trailer and a car will make it slip more.

Sounds like either:
The rear crank oil seal's gone hard thru being stood, running it's allowing oil past it and onto the clutch plate
OR:
The clutch arm's partially-siezed thru lack of use and/or dodgy clutch master cylinder and it's not returning properly.
