I've just bought probably my nicest retro motor yet! To put it in perspective here's a run down of my last couple of motors (Sorry I'm a bit biased to one marque): bike carb'd mk2: the Scirocco (sold in October, then written off ) And the latest member of the fleet, picked up last Sunday ;D The grinning idiot is me! I picked the cab up off a chap in Morecambe, it's a Pewter Grey 1.6 GL auto that's done 67k, and the 3spd auto means it's great for cruising! It's had a new hood and paint by the looks of it too, I couldn't be happier. As for plans, it could do with going a tad lower, and I'm not sure if it looks a little over wheeled on the Modernlines. For now at least I'm just gonna enjoy it! Hope you like

Nice, Cabbys are good fun and if the hood's been done recently you're laughing! THey do have a tendency to fill up with water if it or the seals are in the least dodgy! The wheels are probably a bit fat if anything, the steering will be quite heavy I would have thought. They're only small cars so don't suit anything too "clunky". There's no denying they look smart on BBS or ATS Cups and the like.
As for lowness.... I will be removing a set of coilys from mine and fitting "normal" lowering stuff at some point soon-ish. The coilys make it handle like it's on rails but they're too stiff for the Somerset roads and lanes (more like farm tracks and that's just the A roads!). They'll be for sale then....
Enjoy!

moar pics Cheers for the comments guys. I'm still in 2 minds about the Schmidts, from certain angles at this ride height they make it look a bit tonka truckish. I can't help thinking it would look awesome properly slammed on some wide 13s

The wheels are maybe a wee bit big, still looks good though! Wide 13s would be very cool.

I have to say I love the wheels, and the car.
Theres a red one near me that has the single light conversion and a set of deep dish BBS rims.

Cheers for the comments guys. I think I'll leave it as is until the new year, maybe put some lowering top caps on the front to sort the stance. Then in the new year I'll see how funds are for coilovers and I can tweak the ride height. The only issue I can see is that the auto box is the lowest point, but it does have a steel bash guard bolted to it

Rear bracket for the front wishbones is the lowest point on mine and I've clobbered them more than once! I wouldn't have thought the gearbox would hang below that, although maybe that's why the steel guard is there.
And what's wrong with white ones???!!!!

That's a smart looking cabby!
I've got mine riding on the spider-spoke 13s (the standard VW ones) - lowered 40mm all round it looks sweeeeeeet as. Could possibly go wider track. I hate all the BBS's you see old Dubs riding on, soooo passe!

I found that on my Rocco the front wishbone bracket clobbered first, but the end was a little higher than the front. The autobox sits a smidge lower than the front left wishbone mount, but the guard looks fairly sturdy Sweet as!!! It would look mint on some 13 inch allycats ;D Yes it would. The old ones I had on the Golf and the Rocco were 8's with an offset of about 0 and they were a tad too wide! a nice set of 7's would do the trick though

Quick photoshopped lowering job, I'm saving my pennies for coilovers :-)

The black lips on the wheels make me cry, but the car is sweeeet Needs Allycats tbh I don't know what everyone has against the Schmidts! The black dishes aren't to everyone's taste, but I did em to be different. Plan is to take the tyres off em anyway and break out the nitromors, as soon as I can find some steels to roll it on. As much as 13s would be great, it would need to be really slammed to carry it off. The sump on the auto box is the lowest point and I just don't think I could practically get it low enough without smashing the 'box and spilling ATF every five mins. As for Allycats, sweet as they are, I've been there and done that now, would have to be something different

I like the wheel design... but i feel that the black dishes clash with the tires and everything just looks mismatched. Definately different though The same wheels in one colour, or light on the outside dark in the middle is cool.. like Polished dishes on grey centers..

Just trying to work out a way of doing it that hasn't been done 1000,000,000 times before Soon as I get the tyres off I can have a play about and see what works
