I don't know if you've already seen this - but it looks like a nice example! forum.bmw5.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=58899Before you ask no I'm not on commission and I don't know the seller, but had I not just bought an E28 I'd be tempted

Hup again - forgot to mention it had full front to rear solid brake pipes and a new front pipe and catalytic converter for the MOT at a cost of nearly £300
This is a good honest E36, has none of the usual gremlins you get on these cars

1994 Mk3 Golf 1.8 Driver, MOT til 24th September, some service history, no tax. Central locking, alloy wheels, electric sunroof, power steering, CD player, towbar, GTi style sports seats. Mechanically the car is fine, it's just been serviced, and is a good dependable daily runner. Body wise the car is getting a bit tatty, it has various scratches, small dents and some lacquer peel, but no major rust that seems to plague Mk3 Golfs. The interior is fine apart from some wear on the driver's seat. This would be a prime candidate for a slam on a cheap set of coilovers, some banded steels and a satin paintjob. For the next MOT all I can see that it will need is a back box as it's blowing. I'd put it through myself but I've not got the time or money right now, what with a 5 month old baby and a 24 year old BMW to look after. £300 or very near offer - no part ex or swaps, I've got enough on my plate right now!

Yeah mate, I get through cars at a rapid rate - this one lasted 4 months which is by far not the shortest.
I've just bought an E28 528i - I'm surprised you haven't heard it from your place to be honest, it is rather loud!

Like Stooby says, there are lots of guides out there on how to go 1.8T. I know the noise doesn't bear comparison but it would be my choice. For power, economy, tunability and reliability they can't be beaten. Plus you don't have so much of an issue with the sump being low.
If you can pick up a written off mk4 GTi for cheap enough, rip out all the bits you need and part the rest out at sensible money, you stand a good chance of getting the engine, gearbox and most of the other bits you need for pretty much free.

Model: E36 BMW 318is Coupe Year: 1997 Mileage: 125000 Tax: 5 months MOT: 12 Months Location: nr Blackpool Price: SOLD Additional Information: This would make a superb economical daily for someone, if I didn't need the room I'd be keeping this. I've just put an MOT on it, and it comes with part service history. The previous owner was a BMW master tech. It’s standard, all but for a set of hottuning/raceland coilovers (fitted 3 months ago), and a set of 17 inch 5 spoke M3 replica wheels. It’s never been welded, and has had full front to rear solid brake pipes fitted for the current MOT. I have some matt black AC Schnitzer replicas for it, which you can have for an extra £100. Bodywork wise it has a few scratches and trolley dents, and a scab in the middle of one of the rear arches, just needs rubbing down filling and painting. It has remote central locking and and immobiliser, all working perfectly. The interior is very good (indigo blue velour, black dash and plastics), no bolster wear at all, and all the switches and buttons work exactly as they should. All in all this is a good solid dependable daily, it’s low, but not impractical, the ride is good and it doesn’t catch the floor or arches on anything but big bumps/speedbumps. It refuses to break down, drives really well and despite all the positive comments it gets I fancied something older, so I’ve bought an E28 5 series. All it needs is a set of low offset 5 series wheels and some stretch and it'd look spot on. Any questions welcome Pre-coilovers:

The Phirm would have been my first suggestion. Have you the facilities to have a go yourself? If yours is on 90 spec electrics (hazard switch on the column) then the wiring shouldn't be too nightmarish.
As an aside, a VR swap will probably limit how low you can run the car. VR sumps are very low, and made from dairy milk alloy, so you might need to raise the engine.

This is now for sale! If anyone wants a practical but low E36 daily let me know.
It's in at the moment having new front-rear brake pipes fitted, and a new lambda sensor, and it's ready to roll for another 12 months.

Ooooff. I have a little black Jager sticker in the back of my E36, and had one on my E21. Which to my mind makes them cool by association

I knew it was a bad idea booking an MOT on Friday the 13th...
Anyway my E36 BMW 318is has failed, not badly, but the items are:
Both front to rear brake pipes excessively corroded - I'm told you need to drop the fuel tank to replace these, is this an on the driveway job, or best left to someone with a lift?
Emissions high - CO and Lambda both reading high (not got the readings yet) Can this be cured with an 'italian tune' ie a razz up and down the motorway to get the cat good and hot, and possibly an oil/filter service? Lambda sensors are £££ so I'd really rather avoid procuring one.
Any hints would be gratefully received!

Congratulations one and all!
This may seem odd given that we've never met, but looking at your wedding pictures there was something awry which I couldn't quite put my finger on...
Then I got it - I'm pretty sure that's the first picture I've ever seen of you wearing shoes! All the others, grinding, welding, sawing up bits of wood, generally tinkering cars/vans/motorcycles have been in flip flops!

Anyone familiar with tractor pulling will know what can be achieved with diesels, the pro stock boys are putting out from 900 bhp upwards from 3.8 litre deutz fahr engines on stock internals with holset turbos.
