mmm Met blue nice on all those curves. Yep, really shows off the shape This is cracking! I'm glad you're putting the effort into the paint and panels now, it'll look grand. It's been a long time coming, and the original plan from the start. There's a good solid base to work from now, just a few minor repairs needed to make good. That looks like a great finish, good job. It's pretty good, but there's a lot of small 'bits' that have dropped onto the lacquer that'll need buffing out Yep, really happy with how well they've come out so far And here the two panels are with some natural evening light in the paint oven My plan will be to get the front wings, bootlid, and maybe the rear wings too into colour and lacquered by the end of the coming weekend, but I keep finding dents, ripples and other annoyingly visible imperfections in the metalwork. Just keep saying to myself all this time and effort will be worth it when everything's painted!

Those 15" Vitesse wheels just look so lost under there! Yeah...its strange, on all my other SD1's I always used to want Vitesse alloys, but this time I'm going BIGGER! That's partly why I'm going up to 16's on mine, fill up the voids that the Vitesse 15's don't fill anymore!

ignoring the triangle base plate which is application specific. i thought i was nerd spotting there Better luck next time! Thinking about it, those could make some good sturdy engine mounts, I was suprised how much of a difference there was between a new one of those and an old one when I snapped a trailing arm on my Discovery and fitted a new replacement....

put me out of my misery, are those engine mounts the defender trailing arm bushes (chassis end)? Not by a long way! They're re-purposed Lycoming engine mounts off a light aeroplane, slightly adapted to be mounted with a shear load across the centre. So far seem to be up to the job at absorbing vibrations and holding the engine in place

Aww that's not good. At least there's a reason for it not running right.

Having a look into the RVI>RVC tacho conversion I downloaded the 100Hz/200Hz audio file that simulates 3000rpm and 6000rpm on a 4 cylinder engine and wired it up to a battery and my laptop. After a little tweaking on the calibration screw it reads about spot on, so the issue with not working in the car will be a power supply and/or earth issue which is easily fixed And after all these years I'll have all working instruments again on the P6!

Feckin awesome! That is all Thanks, I'm hoping in the next few weeks after a little more tinkering to get a bit more ambitious all things going to plan With a day of tinker time on the P6 with the engine firing up on the button and running reasonably well enough I've dug out the tacho RVI>RVC tacho conversion kit I had and made a start swapping the internals. I have an RVI type tacho which senses the current going to the coil to operate. Ever since the first engine swap I've been on coilpacks and the old dizzy wiring has been bundled up out of the way so there's not been a working tacho for years. The option is finding a later RVC type tacho that senses coil pulses, but finding one seems to be tricky, and they're all old now so I went for the modern alternative conversion kit First job was to strip down the gauge binnacle and remove the tacho and strip it down to remove the old circuit board And once the old gubbins were removed the new circuit board was offered up and soldered on Unfortunately it didn't work, so I've swapped the red and black wires to the coil and moved the signal input wire to a less sensitive input, and now when cranking the needle goes full scale but still doesn't read rpm. My rpm output is directly off the EDIS4 coilpack wires via diodes and powers a generic aftermarket tacho pod so I know I have a good signal. Unscrewing the body from the binnacle I noticed the needle flickers so I'll try a dedicated new earth wire and separate power supply to see if those are causing interference and preventing it from operating correctly? On a positive at least I know the P6 is capable of smoky burnouts so I'm happy

I'll just leave this here Fresh battery and it started on the button. The fuel must be getting on for 3 years old now, but the brakes, clutch and linelock work just fine The back end started to swing into a pile of scrap so I let off as soon as I felt it go. When I get the chance I'll move the P6 out into a clear part of the driveway and give it a more thorough testing!

I do like how understated this is. Might I ask about the engine. It that the one that sounds so fabulous in various big Sprinters? It seems I see a couple a lot lately. It's almost invisible at the last couple of car meets I've been to, until the bonnet goes up. Damn good camouflage it has I think the Sprinters are the 5 cylinder variant, could be wrong? This engine came from the E300 of the mid/late 90's, W210 I think?
