nomad Thanks for the offer mate, I’m living in the south of Ireland now so a bit far away! Everything here seems to be daylight robbery nowadays, and hard to get anyone that will help out a hobbyist they all just want commercial monies

That’s super cool! I a,ways like to see newer cars retrofitted wth older engines. Like that MK5 in Bosnia with a 1.6 Turbodiesel from a MK2 Golf.
Those Toyota diesels are simple beasts. Is the timing belt broken? They only need power to the stop solenoid and everything else is pure mechanical

Those cups (RHD GTI too?), those Cosworth wheels, and those Mopar Rallye wheels!
Thread is full of win!

S-Chassis coilovers seem to have the third collar height adjustability. Never come across it on any other car

I seem to get 2 kinds of cars - customers, my own or mates - one kind will give me no trouble and everything works out the way it’s supposed to. The other kind are the ones that fight you no matter what. Like the god awful Micra on my drive tonight for a clutch change. Gearbox is quite light. Still took me 2 hours to put the box back on the engine, whoever designed the subframe and shape of front lower crossmember shout be shot!

Tatra used to make some phenomenal machines which Dr. Porsche used as inspiration for the beetle. They only make trucks now, think rebadged MAN.

I rebuilt my compressor pump last year, the conrod bearings were starting to seize so i emery papered them and cleaned everyone up. Now run it on 5w30 motor oil. Smells lovely when the compressor warms up!

Another thing I really like is that nobody has to conform. If your car isn’t a certain way on some forums you’re ostracized. Here everyone is welcomed with open arms, the zanier the better.

So, I’m sick of gas less welding (wonder why) and Clarke say you can convert the 100EN welder to gas welding - I am an Uber tight Yorkshireman so if I have to pay for something its a poor do!
Asked my mates who just told me to throw away that and spend a few hundred squid on a secondhand gas mig - what’s the point in that!
I’ve heard of fire extinguishers converted too.
It galls me to have to go into halfrauds and buy the gas bottles and the regulator and then throw the bottle away after 1 weld!
I use it at home to weld up flexi joints, back boxes, brackets etc as I buy, repair and sell naughtiest volkswagens on the weekend for extra cash, not a professional setup.
Anyone any help?

I used to be a huge VW fan (still am, admittedly) and used a lot of the forums (CGTI, E38 etc) but found the arguing and the falseness tiring. If a car wasn’t BBS rims Airride and OE cool it was ridiculed. I stopped visiting them a few years ago, and then discovered this place, having been a lurker for a few years. Granted, most of my projects are moderns at the moment but the inspiration here is phenomenal and the community that doesn’t exist on many other forums. Sure, PB’s emise hurt things a little but people have found ways around and I view the recent threads every day for a fix of something that isn’t necessarily a VW but is cool in its own way, something that faceache can’t do as that’s all very directed - its the eclectic people here like

That exhaust is a foot too far right! That would look epic on the black centrelocks from the red car above

Full restoration seems to make sense... German Classic Data prices for 205s Yes! I have a 1.6 GTI ‘85 sat there waiting for a resto. I knew prices were rising must not that high. What does note 1 2 and 3 entail?

I love the fact that it’s a constantly evolving project. I enjoy cars that you know every nut and bolt. I reckon that the noise would be the only thing that would bug me, though a Lampredi twin-cam isn’t exactly a bad sounding unit!

I see W126 grille and XJ40 rear quarters. Interior is actually nicer than I thought for most early 90s Japanese saloons. That steering wheel could be valuable, a lot of those can be repaired and some wheels go for big money these days to “period” modders

Back lights look like W140, front like X300 and late 90’s Bentley Turbo R.
It’s cool.
