Hello to you all. First of all I apologise for there not being any relevant pictures here to kick things off!!! I may be purchasing a lovely little hot-hatch from the 1980's and the standard steering wheel is drab to say the very least. Hint... I know that there was a myriad of glorious aftermarket/accessory steering wheels manufactured in the 1980's and I wonder if you lovely people could offer some suggestions and possibly some pictures?! There are one or two I can see in my minds eye that I wish I knew the origins of but, alas I cannot for the life of me remember where I've seen them or what they may be... So if you could help me that would be great! I'm sure we'd all like to see some lovely steering wheels?! If there is a thread on this already please do point me in the right direction and I will apologise profusely for starting this meaningless thread!!! Many thanks to you all in advance...

That is a gem!!!
I feel I will need to scour some old copies of 'Car' magazine or similar from the 1980's to get some good names of after market steering wheels and their associated manufacturers...
I think adding some period interior (and exterior of course!) accessories can do so much to make a car feel more personal so I am keen to do this where possible.
Please keep the ideas coming if you'd be so very kind!

I think that was is an italvolanti wheel. I had one in a old mk2 that passed through my hands many years ago and it was well suited.
I have a shed full of old VW bits so might have something when the spring rolls around when i undertake the long awaited de-clutter/re-shed..

Correct, that is an Italvolanti Formel. I have a little addiction in collecting steering wheels I'm afraid... This is only half of it... excluding my standard Momo-wheels from the MX5's 2017-12-20_06-51-20 (1) by G C, on Flickr The Momo Benetton, no collection is complete without this one _DSC4565 by G C, on Flickr Completely flat Momo Prototipo from the 90's, which is odd as they stopped making flat-face wheels somewhere in the '70s _DSC3694 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr Very early (60's) Momo Jackie Stewart _DSC4472 by G C, on Flickr Nardi Classic, another must-have. Lovely wheel, feels just right _DSC3613bewerkt by G C, on Flickr Got some other Nardi Classics, Personal Fittipaldi, Momo Mario Andretti,... And looking for new wheels every single day

There is only one correct choice. http://instagram.com/p/BUR2sLqhDl5 Got two cars with them in, wouldn't choose anything else for any 80s-90s car. Got to be an original though, the new production ones don't feel quite the same.

Nardi classic that was on my 89 CRX just seemed too retro classic for the car & was soon replaced by something slightly more `90`s, followed by a factory wheel. (P.steer models slightly smaller & more deeply dished than others.) Glad the `86 CR-X Ballade still had it`s factory wheel. Recently cleaned these two up. & experimented upon an older aftermarket wheel.

Can you get more '80's than the Subaru Vortex / XT / Alcyone steering wheel

Can you get more '80's than the Subaru Vortex / XT / Alcyone steering wheel In a game of steering wheel top trumps, thats even odder than an Allegro Quartic. Awesome. I was going to put some pics of my wheels up here, but there not 80's, more 60's/70's.

If it's not a track car, get the wheel with the Alpine remote in the middle, can't remember who made it though!

The old wheels have incredibly soft leather with hardly any grain, while my 90's prototipo is heavily grained and nowhere near as soft. And that's why I use the newer wheel only for decoration and the old wheels for both decoration and driving

Another Italvolanti in the AE86 I rented in Japan, the same wheel as used in the Initial D anime _DSC9104 by G C, on Flickr And a Nardi in another Initial D replica we met while driving around. The guy said his name was Takumi, still not sure whether he was telling the truth or not _DSC9073 by G C, on Flickr
