Nothing much to add to everything that's already been said above. I've been experimenting with various LED options to improve the dash output on our '7 and there's plenty of options that don't detract (IMO) by making it too bright. Although given that the car is rarely if ever driven at night it's unlikely to be an issue, but it was a puzzle I fancied solving as I had some bulbs going spare. Not sure where you are location wise (guessing not a far from me/Glenn?), but as Chris has so expertly twisted your arm (right decision by the way ), am happy to assist where I can on the wheels front.

JB - All very clever stuff - talking of stuff I need to get a pile of bits to you Funny you should mention that. Was going to give you a call In the near future. I am planning on a bit of a “ refocus” on what I do, and you are most definitely welcome to be a part of it 😊 Given I need to do some running around next week, potentially to both of you if convenient, am happy to play courier

Without derailing Chris' thread too much, I picked up a little something from eBay that can be seen lying in the back of this pic Flexzilla 30' - should be much easier than the hateful plasticky hose that I current have to unfurl and lay out every time. First impressions are very good with a decent retractable wheel and hose looks nice and pliable, will report back once it's up and being used in anger. Might need to fix an extension on for the far away jobs, but for working around the car closest to it, it should be more than adequate. I just need to set up a decent water trap/filter now.

Spoiler alert - it was rather a disappointment. Fitment isn't/wasn't great at all (admittedly the boot is sat down as little as there is no seal on it currently but even so you get the picture) Probably predictable but still rather annoying given the length of wait and that I'd heard good things about the suppliers and they had come recommended on the gen 1 forum. Have sent them some 'feedback' to air my frustrations, but given sending it back isn't very easy it looks like I'm going to have to stock up on a few materials and learn some GRP skills. Live and learn I guess. A few slits required and some fettling might see it come good, worst case is it gets shelved for when I can find another boot lid so it can be interchangeable. Decided that there was little point being too disheartened and while I was there I may as well do something useful, so I got on with tidying up the rear arch welds ...made up the brake lines for the rear axle and started dismantling some other bits that I knew needed attention (unsure what I can really do with these but will see what's left after some careful cleaning) Saturday was more house clearing logistics involving the car trailer and a bit of workshop reorganisation which meant Sunday was playtime once more. This time focusing again on the rear in advance of the boot floor works and in particular something that has probably needed some tlc from the outset - the liberally wax oiled petrol tank As with most things on this car there are a few acts of contortion required to get at some of the fixings and wiring connections to get everything undone including fuel lines under the car which left me with some more sound deadening to remove a bit of clambering around inside to undo the vent/return pipes which are bolted to the parcel shelf and the removal of some rather suspect (read customised!) wiring which I will repair/replace while it's off the car. Which pleasingly left me with this Less pleasing was that I couldn't remove the fuel lines as they are trapped by the steering mecha ism, but I did manage to get the lines free of the filter That's a battle for when the engine comes out again - part of the reason for having a sort in the workshop to free some space up for storage. Will tackle the removal of the rear window, rear quarter windows and c pillar vents on the next visit, just as soon as I've stocked up on sharpies, ikea bags and storage boxes ETA: realised while having a bit of head space / time tinkering that I'd suffered a minor brain fart over the previously mentioned discs and why they didn't fit... they were the old set I'd removed from the MG... same stud pattern, slightly different disc size. Numpty!

After expecting a delivery in June and wondering why it didn't turn up, only when checking the online tracking after finally getting a response from the seller I noticed it was sat at my local parcelforce depot awaiting customs payment, they obviously hadn't got round to sending the card that tells you where it is... Good news then, but also bad as it meant paying the second lot of duties in as many weeks as I ticked another country off the supply list - oops! Still it meant I finally got my hands on this yesterday (yes and a beer for my efforts!) It's something I've always wanted for my end vision of the car, partly and rather strangely inspired by my dad's Cavalier SRi back in the early years of my youth (long story). Am intending to finish work early today so shall give it a test fitting later and see how it looks... more pics to follow. Must be a 'Spoiler' alert 👏 very good sir

Planning on the barn and the new house all sorted Then a new barn nearby that becomes the workshop!!! Would if I could John, ticks everything we're looking for but alas this place was a rental hence the clearance. Grandparents have been there over 65 years so there's a fair bit to get through!

The house clearing has sadly continued, this weekend focusing on the somewhat rickety but somehow intriguing barn that's close to the house. Nope the inside wasn't much better! My word did it throw me back to how much I enjoyed playing in there as a kid. This was the area I previously pulled my lambretta out of many years previously but sadly there were no other gems to be found this time, just lots of woodworm sampled timber which got rather unceremoniously burnt. That said I did find a couple of engines from my dads previous motoring exploits - a complete mini engine and another from his self-scrapped Standard Pennant. Not sure what I'm going to do with those yet however, so on the off-chance someone reading this needs anything, let me know. Back in the workshop, I finished off reassembling the spare set of front suspension both were refitted on the car temporarily while I sort the intended replacements. Talking of which I then made a start on dismantling the other set which I'm hoping to use bits from. After a bit of a fight (see above for weapons of choice) they came apart complete with what looks like lots of boiled grease inside Still it must've done its job as the rest looked in good condition Playtime was then somewhat thwarted as we had family visiting, but I at least now have a few things lined up for the next visit. In other news, some solid doors have been located in the states and will soon be in a container and heading over here. I have also been sorting logistics for my bro's inadvertent long term splitscreen project and as that is stripped already but needs fully treating again (long story), I've taken the liberty of booking the celica shell in for a bath straight after it, meaning I really need to crack on and finish a few bits before it gets stripped. Yikes. Should prove interesting given things might be happening on the housing front too. Oh well, nothing like a deadline to focus the mind and ensure progress is maintained

Rally design does a weld on coilover kit as well. Cheaper and not so far away. It is for 2" Escort struts, but it fitted my 2" ae86 struts perfectly. Ya I've used the rally design kit quite a few times with no issues. I think a pair of gaz black coilovers that we got made up for a ta27 were £275 with fully serviceable inserts. Thanks for the pointers both, will get in touch with Gaz and Rally design and see what they say.

Looks stunning, all looks to be coming together beautifully.
As an aside, how do you rate the lift from B&H? I've been pontificating about getting one for years but even more so now (joys of spending too much time on the internet and researching some more).

I've never had much faith in the techno toy tuning camber top mounts/coilover combo. The top mounts on their own are fine but they don't seem to mate well with the spring top hat(even the one they supply themselves) and I've seen interference/wear like you've pictured above before. I always tend to make my own coilovers now for ae86s/charmants/rwd starlets etc. I wouldn't go to the trouble of making them if you're not going to shorten the strut tube and run a shorter insert. Gaz offer very competitive prices to build coilovers if you supply your struts. Thanks Kev, worth knowing and something to keep an eye on. I did get their camber plates with roller bearings at the same time thinking that might cover me, only time will tell I guess. Either way I don't really want to use what's on the coilovers currently so will need to start again to some degree. My alternative plan was to go for the shortened strut tube and shorter insert and the T3 sleeves, but your suggestion of Gaz is a good one, might give them a call today and see what they say as they're not a million miles away from me, definitely much closer than California.

Just a question. Have you ever had hair? First photo seems to confirm my suspicions 🤣🤣🤣 I could post another photo that would answer your question but as it's somewhat incriminating and really not in a good way, I'll let you draw your own conclusions!

Been a bit of a distracting few days with a fair bit of work related stress (boss leaving, team restructuring, redundancies happening etc.), and well life in general for various reasons. Think all should work out ok but next few weeks/months might be interesting. One of said other reasons was also the need to make a start on clearing my gran's house over the weekend as with everything going on she's had to go into a home. It did however provide some entertainment in the discovery of a few priceless pics - seems I was always destined to play with toys much bigger than I could handle It also resulted in the discovery of some serious entertainment relics Any suggestions of what can be done with these much appreciated - think I might have a go at resto-modding them in some way and might start a thread, not sure when I'll get round to them just yet as homework has been banned in the house for the time being! Suffice to say as a result my head has not really been in the right frame of mind for car antics, especially not effort number three on a certain boot panel. Things seemed to have settled this week however (fingers crossed) so I decided to treat myself to some tinkering time after work one eve. I didn't fancy yet more grinding and welding, and there isn't much point for reasons I'll explain in a bit, instead I thought I'd continue with the front suspension set up and see how things might go together with a few of the recently acquired parts from Techno Toy Tuning for a bit of a mojo boost - saving money on commuting does have some nice side effects. Good news first, the camber plates fit! and so will the roll centre adjusters with whatever set up I finally decide on. I then decided to take a look at the TA23/27/28 coilovers to see what I could combine and what would need attention, unfortunately it seems attention is the operative word, and a bit of it. Once the top nut was removed and the mounting plates removed, the full extent of the top hat modifications in a previous life could be seen Those out the way, the rest did all go together so a solution is workable, but I'll need the various parts for the bottom still. The alternative, and a train of thought I'm leaning towards, is to forget using these as a starting point and order a set of weld on coilover sleeves and put them on to my spare set of strut casings, I can then use everything I've already got hubs wise and it doesn't become a mish mash of bits, however I would like to upgrade the brakes if I can. More research needed on that front. Regardless of that, if I ever wanted to return the car to stock I wanted to have a spare standard suspension set up, so that's what I turned my attention to next. Firstly removing the springs from strut set number 2 using the arkwright's till equivalent of spring compressors before building up the freshly painted number 1 set. More on suspension developments soon. In other news, the reason for not wanting to do too much welding and starting over with the rear repairs is because I've not yet got my mitts on this rather wondrous sight (Look it's even holding water so must be reasonably solid ) Hoping this will solve a multitude of issues for me concerning the back end, so for the time being the grinder and cutting discs are staying in the case until I can have a proper look at things. The other minor issue is that it's also at the other end of the country, however it's in the same area that I need to visit for a number of other things I need to sort... fate? possibly. Roadtrip? Definitely! Which neatly ties in to the fact that I've also been getting rather a lot of grief from work about taking leave which I've been holding off from doing for most of the year for various reasons (intended house move, car logistics, other projects etc.), but seeing as I'm now pushing my luck and need to take it by September I've booked a decent chunk of August off - will see if we can clear the slate and progress a few things during that time. Fingers crossed!
