How funny, I'd never heard of one of these until Saturday and now here another. I bought a car of a fella who's got one of these in his shed, it was bought by his dad in the 1960s but the engine broke around 2001 and it's been of the road since as he can't find spares for it. If you would like to pass on my details to the owner of the Jowett or put him in touch with me (pm me and I will forward contact details) - I can advise him on the spares source - I can also put him in touch with a couple of good engine builders that specialise in that particular model if needs be. *cough* Subaru WRX flat four! *cough*

I'd also vote for getting it on the road with as much original character as possible kept intact BUT don't just blob patches over rust to tide it over. My favourite Beetle of the 15 or so that I've owned was an orange '70 (used to be just behind Springhill shops for oldisbetter ) that needed a pair of heater channels, a front lower quarter and a rear lower quarter. It had never been welded so I drilled the heater channels out along the spot welds, slid the old ones out and the new ones in, plug welded through the holes then modified the quarter repairs to be as small as possible. Most people couldn't tell that repairs had been done at all. Try to make the repairs blend into the original lines, you'll hate having to go back and re-do it later! Oh, and with that number plate you need a lairy big motor with a massive draw-through turbo system with loads of lag but tyre shredding power!

I went on the Morgan factory tour a month or so ago, it was ace! Weekday, so got to see the cars being made too - quite an eye-opener!

What rust converter are you using? I used to use RustRemedy but its gotten very expensive. Not heard of rust remedy. I tend to use Kurust too, although my Dad swore by Jenolite! Some of the VW type 25 guys use something called Vactan if I remember right, supposed to be excellent. I nearly bought a Mk2 as my first car (a 2-door 1600 super sport in red - £900!) but the insurance was almost a grand for third party only so I bought my Beetle instead. Still got it 22 years later but I often wonder what happened to that Escort...

Determined that jnr will grow up not in a 3 year old finance wagon. But, isofix is mrs' one " must have" Sounds like I'm slightly luckier than you - my 2 1/2 year old has his car seat held into the front of my Beetle with the 4-point harnesses! Loves going in it! Back to the plot, I'm pretty sure that one of the staff writers from Volksworld magazine retro-fitted isofix into the back of his early '60's Beetle. Worth adding the isofix to whatever you get before the other half finds out?

Photoshop doodle i was playing about with the other day. Just an idea. Not sure how I missed this bit of the thread! The two door coupe looks very much like a Rometsch Beeskow coachbuilt, beautiful roofline. There is a guy in the States doing a 2-door conversion which was shaping up nicely, but seems to have stalled somewhat. Good work with repairing this one though - they're such a nice shape.

I've got one piece windows in mine (since 1999!) and although they suit the look, the seals are utter garbage! I'd stick with the quarter lights in yours Dex. 1641's can be a real mixed bag - some are just like a stocker with 57 more cc, others really rip!

Having had some time to weigh up the pros and cons of both the white and the green beasts,I have decided that the green mean machine is the future... Is the rust that bad on the white one? I always prefer repairing rust to dents, but then it is rather useful to have an unmolested example (even if a little perforated!) to take measurements from and work out the order of assembly of the panels. I've welded up enough rusty Beetles to know exactly how they go together, and it's made repairing them so much easier now.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure the 2nd gen MR2 uses a Corolla front subframe. Just has tie links from the hubs to the middle of the car.

How does the one with the throttle bodies in the wheel arch not suck up everything nearby... bits of rubber, stones etc Sounds good though Not a fweem though Sorry John, just seen this! It now has boxes in the inner wings for clearance, the only bit of the car not in original paint! It's also got double wishbone rear suspension, it's a proper clever bit of kit!

As said before, VW were making 1967 model year cars from September 1966 to August 1967. The chassis numbers for these will all start 117, but will be on a D registration, E registrAtion and a few on F registrations! '67 Beetles are real oddball cars with lots of one year only features.
Thesamba.com has a section on dating cars from the chassis numbers down to the month. A 1977 Beetle will also start with 117 but have more characters in the chassis number.

Some great pics here! I was just thinking though, all of those cars that were inside I don't think I've ever really seen them at any other shows, so do they just for the most part sit in the owners garage for the other 363 days of the year? The amount of time, effort, and £££ that goes into them, it's a shame that they're not seen more regularly. There's only one of the regular cars at the show I see around, and that's in the owners garage on the way past to my place of work. Let's see those shiny dubs more often people! Good point. I know the Natural High race car well, it belongs to Phil West who I've known for many years. It started as a stocker, then became a fast streetcar, then street/strip, then race only. The blue metalflake is new for this year - I think it was mainly original paint before. Another friend won Best of Show in 2015, debuting it at the show, but since then he's thrashed it down the strip a few times, running 13's. He said to me only yesterday that he enjoys the build most, and motivation to tweak it is low as it would be so easy to damage the paint.

Love the opal estate if that's what it is very nice there's a old guy round my way with a brown 2 door fastback one I see it every Friday at morrisons. Looks a vwee bit unloved here and there I did ask if he would consider selling it and he said when he dies the car will die too. Go to the scrapyard. Shame really as it looks very nice. It's a k reg so think it's a 1971. Keep saying hello, even if its just a nod across the shop. Build up a rapport with him. Even if nothing comes of it, it's better than just wondering what if!

Minty, we do something similar for food. If you can't be bothered with making a picnic the night before, a Tesco meal deal will do nicely on the way to the show! £9 will do the three of us with those, or one of us for burger and chips!
Back to the show, the quality of the cars increases every year, wit the bar being raised all the time. Best of Show winner Lyndon said on another forum he worked every evening and weekend for four years building his car.

I like the wheels on the Granada coupe - are the rears wider than the fronts, or is it just the angle?

Ok, here's a couple. Lucas Daglish, naturally asiprated 2332cc VW flat four, 1955 Oval window Beetle. Lee Maynard, draw through turbo on 1956cc (or maybe 2054, I can't remember!) VW flat four, 1960's Renault Dauphine. Peter Englezos, 2387cc VW flat four on carbs with nitrous, 1958-ish Fiat 600. Peter Shattock, 1776cc VW flat four with mad roller throttle bodies, 11000rpm capability, Hewland 6 speed sequential gearbox I don't like stock VW noises very much - these are loads better!
