Is it high at the hinge end of the door or the latch?
If it's the latch, a small shim behind the top part of the hinge? Wouldn't need to be very thick to drop the rear of the door down 3mm.
If it's the hinge end then physically dropping the door is the only way of doing it... Unless you could accept raising the body to meet it... and that's way more work (or filler).
Is there a rake of filler on the top of the door? Maybe it's worth looking at easing that down?

Yeah, looks like that was a problem waiting to happen, rather than an actual fault with the shocks. Can you feel a difference?

I cut off the doubler plate on mine to not have the void. I have an aluminum tank guard fitted to stop it damaging from rocks etc, so the doubler was not doing anything. if you don't offroad, just don't worry about it getting damaged. That's a good point. For the time being I have enough on my plate, but I will cogitate on the issue and, as and when I get around to doing anything about it, I'll report back.

my range rover has a similar arrangement, whoever fitted the current tank packed the whole area with some sort of waterproof grease, Tank looked perfect the last time I had it out. I did my utmost to protect the last tank. Maybe it’s just the luck of the draw. Admittedly, after I fitted it, I didn’t give it any more thought at all until it started leaking, so maybe some kind of regular treatment would have helped, but I honestly can’t think of any way to get the area sealed off properly. Would stainless be the optimum material Glen? Best, John Maybe John, but it’s not my favourite material. It’s awkward to work with, heavy, and prone to stress fractures. I think, possibly, the only real way of dealing with it is to split the tank from the support, thoroughly clean and paint them separately, then instead of welding them together, use some kind of Sikaflex style adhesive/sealant to bond them together instead. I might have a look at the old tank at some point, and see if that would be an option.

We expect a homemade windmill power generation scheme next if it stays a bit blowy If there’s a stream that can be taken advantage of, then a watermill would be cool.

How much are new petrol tanks? If it were me I would just wait and put another one in it in 10 years if you still have the car and its still being used out in all weathers. I’ll almost certainly still have it. 🤣 £150 is what I paid for the latest one. If they weren’t such a god-awful job to change I’d put one (or maybe two) into the stores. I will have a think about it. I’m not convinced that the standard mounting system is really suitable for replicating in aluminium, and maybe it’d be a better option to strip out the old tank and work out exactly what could be done to make them more durable.

No progress on the jobs that need doing, like fitting the power steering or anything dramatic, but I noticed a disturbing damp patch at the rear after filling up with diesel the other week. So I had a look underneath. Fox picture. 😟 Hoping that it would be something easy and cheap to sort, I had a poke about. A perished hose or something straightforward… nope, all that looked fine, but the bottom of the tank was definitely damp with fuel. I then had to drive around until I’d used up most of that tank full of diesel, and also wait for it to stop raining. Both of which happened today. These tanks are a bit of a rubbish design. They sit on a steel strengthening plate, which effectively means that the bottom is double skinned. The water gets between the support and the bottom of the tank, and eventually you get a leak. There appear to be no way of stopping it. I had exactly the same issue with the previous tank, and so when I fitted this one about nine years ago, I stripped, painted, stone chipped and waxoyled the bejesus out of it. It’s obviously made no difference. The new tank appears, at least, to be powder coated instead of just that generic “panel black” stuff often comes in. I couldn’t be bothered with spending days preparing and painting this one though. I’ve just thrown it on and will give it a spray of waxoyl once I’ve filled it and checked it for leaks. No pictures of it fitted yet as I spent the whole afternoon cursing and swearing at the fit (or lack thereof) of pattern components. There’s only four bolts holding it on, but the front ones are awkward to the point of wanting to set fire to the whole thing after dropping the nut straight into my face for the umpteenth time. Anyway, I have yet to decide whether to see about repairing and re-engineering the old tank, whether to send it to Alisport and give them a small fortune in exchange for an aluminium replacement, or if to just hope for the best and just buy another new tank in 8-10 years time when this one springs a leak…

Looks great! Just got meself a 70 4 door. Yours is fantastic I tried a 4 door once but I found the narrower doors just a little restrictive for my occasionally ample frame form! It’s a nice little car, it’s a bit scruffy round the edges but photographs well and so on. It’s quite a "pleasing" little car. A long time ago now, an ex-girlfriend of mine had a 4-door Minor. I really struggled with its ergonomics. The front doors and B-pillar position made it awkward for me to get in and out of, and I’m not a big person. God knows how I’d manage now I’m 25 years older and fatter…🤣🤣

I sold a few registrations back in the late 90s, early 00s, and normally the V5 would come back with the new age-related number and the clear statement “non-transferable”; but a couple of times it didn’t have that on it. Both times I was able to transfer the age related one as well. Bonus. I think it was a glitch at the time, back when there was still a human element in the process, and inspections were carried out at local offices.

I’ve said it before, but you’re a better man than me!
Well done for sticking with it. It’s going to be the most solid survivor out there when you’re done. 👍

Then sprayed some rust converter/primer on the steel. Only surface rust - all the steel is in excellent condition. You really can go off some people. 🤣🤣 Excellent work as usual, really good to see this coming on so well. 👍

Fantastic work as usual, it's always great to see what you have been doing. I've got 3 or 4 different size wooden dowels, I usually drill the old screw hole to the next size dowel, glue a slightly longer piece of dowel in then trim back with a flush cut saw when the glue had dried. Makes for a pretty neat and strong solution. That’s how I do it too.

For holes that have threads on parts that need painting I've always used those foam ear plugs… Genius.

I genuinely don’t think anyone that’s likely to buy the Astra off you is going to be doing so with the intention of putting it back to standard. 😃
