There's loads I havnt seen for a while but one car I honestly can't remember the last time I spotted on the road that used to be everywhere is a Citroen Xantia. Probably the air suspension that killed most of them off.

Thing is if they are being stolen to be "ringed" where are they being sold on to afterwards? Some of these cars going missing would need a full respray, change of interior etc before sale for someone not to recognise them?

Love this car. If you're ever selling let me know. Would look good in the garage next to my Nova Gte I was very close to putting it up for sale a couple of months ago to get something else but decided against it, it still isn't worth a great deal so would have cost me too much extra to buy a MK2 Golf GTi which is what I was after. Worth very little? You'd be suprised, two on eBay both fetched over £3k on eBay last week. One had no mot!

Scary to think that it would be 20 years old next year. I still think of them as fairly new.

Couple of years back I passed a Nova GTE on a driveway with a for sale sign in the window, I'd passed the house loads of times before and never noticed the car there but thought he would probably want silly money for it. I stopped and knocked the door anyway just out of curiosity, the owners dad answered the door and told me the owner was out but thinks he wants around £500 for it. Even back then that was silly cheap so I left my number and told the chap to get the owner to call me when he was back.
Later that night I got a phone call confirming yes it was still for sale for £500, great I thought and shot straight up there for a look. The car was the most solid and rust free Nova I'd seen in years let alone a genuine GTE! Turns out it had been off the road and garaged since 2002 and he'd only rolled it out onto his drive to stick the for sale sign in.
I agreed to buy it for the full asking price and told him I would organise recovery for the following weekend, foolishly I didn't leave a deposit. Anyway few days later me and the mrs had a huge bust up (not car related) and she was threatening to leave with the kids etc so I didn't want make things worse by bringing another car home. When we finally made up and I gained permission for the nova, I went back to his house to apologise for the delay and organise collecting the car again only to find his drive was empty ☹️ Still gutted to this day and still hold the other half responsible. Makes it worse seeing the prices they are fetching on eBay now!

There's a big market for export at the min to eastern Europe and Africa.
I've sold three cars recently that have been exported to Poland and a fiat Stilo that went to Africa.
Apparently vans are fetching good money on export at the min especially smiley face transits.

Hoppers Autobreak, electric avenue, witton, Birmingham.
Prices are good and you can still wander around at your leisure. Only down side is they have the local contract for the dvla untaxed vehicles so the turnover is high. Most cars are crushed within a week and old stuff over 15 years old tends to get crushed on arrival unless it's something special.

I think most of us are glued to your threads due to being so jealous that you have such and understanding other half.
I'm limited to four "toys" cars at a time, get granted around three hours a year to work on them and if I go out for a "drive" for no apparent reason I get accused of having an affair 😂

Good guide. I always thought of welding as one of those arts that once you learn you never forget, abit like riding a bike.
How wrong I was, I learnt to weld quite well at college 15 years ago then never really touched a welder since until recently. My current early attempts were terrible.

I'd stick it on eBay. There's currently a rough one at over a grand.

Well it turned out to be ok, it has had a new section of slam panel welded in which needs cleaning up and painting but it's all straight. New bonnet and front bumper will be sent off for paint now. ![](https://i.imgur.com/qYt8o0p.jpg)
