these are the period style Rallye wheels in small PCD they usually go for about £500 with tyres. and thats when they do come up for sale which is very rarely. in 15x6 and 15x7 flavor. i did buy these for £120 then let them again for £120 as i don't need three sets of wheels problem is they were 14 inch so very limited on tyre choice. you can buy new 'COP' style steel wheels from here but careful on width as there isn't a huge amount of room. then just source a set of 'Dog Dish' style hub caps. or new Rallyes from the same place The Barracuda seems happiest with 6 inch front and 7 inch rear with the correct offset. it will be difficult to run the car low with the wrong size or offset as there isn't that much room under the arches.

they are very small cars but very heavy and beefy. the large transmission tunnel increases strength as well as making plenty of room for a larger engine. the Mazdat is one of the many reasons the S800 has dragged on. i do miss the 120 doors painted the light makes them look a little pink but they are quite a dark red in natural light. can't remember if i showed you how tatty the old girl was before i started. so a few random pictures. suspension bolts missing and washers the incorrect size! before i did the front end properly. the inner metal front part is missing . i cut that part out of the scrap S800 i bought before i stripped and sold that one on (before i welded in the front inner frame. crash damage still present) sadly i lost quite a few photos when the computer crashed. luckily ii had some saved onto a memory stick so didn't lose them all anyway and the transmission tunnel was already beaten up like this before i fitted the larger engine. obviously had a hard life. more soon

the pcd is 5x4inch. the later A bodies are 5x4.5
when you do remove the wheels watch the left hand thread on the left hand wheels.

A Body Forum
i'm afraid you've bought a relativly awkward car to upgrade. you did get it cheap though.
wheels are not easy . i sold a set of alloys a while back as i was very lucky to get a set of 15 inch Rallye wheels cheap. the Barracuda has a strange wheel PCD so very little choice on wheels unless you convert to the bigger later A Body PCD.
the standard rear end will be a 7-1/4 which are apparently quite weak and upgrading to an 8-3/4 isn't cheap.
the 4 speed 'box is very strong and will take anything you can throw at it.
there is very little room in the engine bay for headers etc. they can be bought but again not cheap.
there are a few mods to strengthen the shell that can be done as they do flex a fair bit if you stiffen up the suspension.
these cars do look good low but again can cause problems with the very soft stsndard suspension.
i'm sure you have lots of questions but most of what you'll need to know will be on the other forums somewhere

thats a '65 iv'e got a '66 318 and 4 speed (should have been the 273 Commando engine) the 273 has a sought after steel crank and solid lifters with adjustable rockers. these will fit into an early 318 and make a revvy motor even with a stock bottom end. (please don't put a Chevy lump in it) i haven't touched mine for a while but the plan is to get on with it next year. join the MMA club as there is plenty of knowledge and spares there.

these are the vents i'll be using a little bit bling so they will be sand blasted and painted body colour. iv'e got the pipe to connect it to the engine bay just need to make a backing for the vent made the shape in cardboard, covered in masking tape and fibreglassed over. when set pull the fibreglass panel off and peel off the masking tape. rivet on, lick of paint, all good. also decided to put the dry cell battery in the footwell. it keeps the weight between the wheels and low down. also it is only a foot away from the starter motor so doesn't need loads of heavy battery lead. made a very heavy gauge aluminium cover to be bolted in. will need to make a lid and cover it in moquette and vinyl the fuel tank cover is made in very heavy gauge aluminium.it came with the car. i shaped it slightly to fit better, just need to tidy the welds and cover it in moquette. getting closer

some are expansion tanks and some are header tanks. to fill a system a header tank is needed.
any tank with a hose at the bottom and pipe at the top will work as long as it is at the highest point in the engine bay. with a metal tank there is nothing stopping you adding small bleed pipes straigh back to the tank from varoius points on the engine.
thats one reason i chose the Subaru tank . it is cast alloy with a steel lid that bolts on. very easy to drill and tap for some -3 fittings for a self bleed system. plus it's quite small. (possibly too small we shall see)

iv'e done a fair bit on a Magnesium bodied Mk7 and it is such good fun to drive and amazingly quick for such a huge car. in fact it has to be my favorite car iv'e worked on. (thats from someone who gets to play with GT40's, Cobras, racing E Types etc) but the standard ones are like driving a bus. need to turn the steering way before the corner as it takes a while for the wheels to catch up. it's one hell of a restoration to take on. chassis number 6. started life as William Lyons personel car before it was taken by the race department and rebodied. now has a 3.8 with triple Webers.

not bad for a couple of hours work. will need to take a profile to get a match for the otherside. the arch is parallel with the body and not the wing as the wing slightly tapers in towards the front. also working out space in the rear. i'm going to panel out the rear with a lift up panel for access to the spare. will put E Type style rails in there

iv'e always felt the standard S800 front wheel arches are a little small when alloy wheels are fitted this picture shows why the arches need flaring a little. due to how the fibreglass wings have been made the arches go in at the top. should be able to show the difference soon so after a bit of searching i decided as my wings are fibreglass it'll be easy to flare them out a little. then mocket it up with tape to see what it'll look like. i don't think it'll look too bad p.s. the rears will stay standard.

both door panels are now finished. needed to make sure the doors didn't need anymore modifing for them to fit hence doing them now. i'm pleased with the way they have come out. there is a 3mm thick rubberised layer under the vinyl to give it some depth. iv'e also got the passanger fibre glass door skin fitted. it was a little more difficult to align as the skin was too far back on the frame originally making the panel gaps huge at the front and non existant at the rear. now fits much better. a little bit of filling over the rivets and thats the body almost there. last job will be fibreglassing around the bottom of the windscreen to build it up as that also isn't quite right.

very cool tuned a few of those engines over the years. there is some easy horsepower to be gained as they are tuned quite lean from the factory. sounds like the throttle linkage may be out and can be a fiddle to set up but once done the engines are as smooth as silk.

going by which is older, car or engine, for emmisions is bonkers so i had to google itseems i was wrong. so you could fit a huge 60's V8 into a modern car and not need an emmisions test. i find that very strange but thats what the link says

before i finally restick the door skins on i needed to make a new door panel. reason being the old ones are no good and i have actually modified the drivers door for a little more shoulder clearence then using part of the old door panel i made a new one just need to cover it in vinyl then make a new one for the passanger side.

I'm under the understanding that for mot emmisions purposes it would go from the year of the engine. Don't no about tax think you'll find it's the other way around. modern engine in old car is old car emmisions also how would they know what year the engine was? fitting an old engine into a modern car will be a right pain getting it to the modern emmisions. don't know about the tax part but probably a mine field.

the front end is now permenantly fitted hopefully iv'e done a better job of bridging the gap than the last chap did in the 70's. it had huge cracks where the two different materials were butt joined. iv'e overlapped and drilled pegging holes for the fibregalss to grip through. next job is now the doors. they had huge gaps at the front you could get your finger through so now i have to mock up the doors and add fibreglass to fill the gap. will probably add the material to the body rather than the door. another job i want to do is change the screen to a plastic screen. one to save weight up high and two because i feel the original screen looks too large for the car. i'll be making a mould for the screen and with a different style rubber it will be smaller. i wouldn't reccomend a plastic screen for a road car but since mine will be mainly a track car it wont hurt. think iv'e resigned myself to the fact the doors are never going to fit well. will be too much work to make the panel gaps smaller and the bonnet has quite large gaps anyway. will build up a little around the top of the door though as that does look a little untidy still hoping to have the car painted by the end of the year
