thanks cord Interesting to see the Jazz rear discs. Still a little hard to understand where the calipers will end up in relation to the rear struts to understand bleed nut location difficulties, the calipers are switched left to right, and can only go towards the rear as the trailing arm is in the way of something everywhere else, the handbrake cable runs up the top of the trailing arm. but good to see the rear hub assembly mounting holes aren't miles out & good to see it isn't a sealed spindle & bearing asm. Assumed there would not be enough track width to bolt adapter plate between hub asm & strut mtg... though Jazz does have different wheel offset than the older Civics. the hub is already 4mm or so deeper than the drum hubThankfully I don't think most Civics really need to increase master cyl. & proportioning valve to upgrade to rear discs from drums (my Accord & 4th Civics didn't). Honda usually did so because they also gave rear-disc equipped Civics larger frt brakes & calipers with bigger wheel cylinders. I already have extra large calipers at the front, so I hope notA picture of 88-00 Civic rear disc/caliper/hub arrangement in case it helped any. with slight difference in fluid entry between 4th (ED/EE/EF) & 5/6th (EG/EH/EK). Wonder if the calipers could be interchangeable for alternative bleed & handbrake cable locations. I bolted a custom adapter to the calipers handbrake actuator so I could retain my original transverse h-brake cables on my '79 Accord because seatbelt mounts were directly behind it's interior h-brake lever making alternatives more challenging. I have a cunning plan

Just a quick update, I set the cabinet up today with the new glass and film which I just laid under the glass and used the bezel to hold it in place, this worked for a while but has come loose at the top.
I also found a 6mm nozzle for the gun,the 4mm wouldn't pass enough media and was very slow to blast, the 8mm one was great but ran out of air very quickly, and I had to stop and let the compressor catch up, the 6mm seems to be my goldilocks nozzle. I'm pleased to say it's working very well, the compressor is never far behind it.
I'd still like a bigger compressor though.

A few weeks ago I managed to sort out the 25mm ply and some insulation, but It's taken till this weekend for the stars to align, and get the floor down we got the under floor insulated Which was a little bit tighter than I would have liked as this was all the waste, and we had to piece a couple of sections in. then we taped the joints, but that's boring so no piccy Next the flippin heavy was 25mm ply waas cut to size and screwed down, then retired for some well earned ribs, chicken and cocktails. I've been reading up on rust removal, and came across reverse electrolysis, I have a plastic bucket, plenty of steel and a power supply, the only thing I was missing was some washing soda, £1.10 later and the necessaries are in my possession. So I put this along with the rest of the parts in turn, in here this fell off then all went for a blast in here and ended up looking like this I got an acclaim rear strut out of storage and had a play The only way I can see to make it fit, means having to take the caliper off to bleed it, but thats not the end of the world. Here's my pln First the back of the acclaim knuckle needs a spacer making to fill the 42.25mm locating hole and a new one drilling out at 20mm to a depth of 10mm to suit the jazz locating pin the recess in the back of the original locating hole is about the right depth, it just needs squaring off. Get the face of the jazz spindle milled down a couple off mm to an even clamping surface, for a 5mm thick spreader plate, to bolt it to the knuckle and drill the jazz spindle out to the new bolt pattern. Please discuss. Dan

In a surprise turn of events the Primer for the floor was delivered this afternoon, Just after I had finished emptying the workshop. Result. 20200422_161034 by logicaluk, on Flickr That's, 2 rollers, a cage, acid etch/cleaner, 10l of 2pack epoxy high build primer and 10l of the light grey top coat for £225. Step 1a sweep the floor then hover it to get as much dust off it as possible. Step 1b wet the floor and sweep it again and marvel at the amount of dust that was still in there. 20200422_173237 by logicaluk, on Flickr Step 1c mix the acid 1:2 with water spread evenly around work in with brush. 20200422_180247 by logicaluk, on Flickr Step 1d re apply and work in with brush then leave for 10 mins while I scoff a half cold dinner. 20200422_182110 by logicaluk, on Flickr Step 1e sweep out and rinse out with 2 buckets of clean water. Step 1e.1 Do it again. Step 1e.2 And again, (did that actually do anything?). Step 1e.3 Surely not. Step 1e.4 This time an improvement, but how the hell is this stuff hanging on after it has had a bucket of water dumped on it and been scrubbed for a few mins, swilling the water over it repeatedly. Step 1e.5 Defiantly almost, nearly there. Step 1e.6 Oh that will do. Step 1e.7 No it won't. 20200422_202403 by logicaluk, on Flickr Step 1f Go fo a refreshing beverage. More tomorrow that took 4 hours to do. more info in my garage build thread Dan

Not being one to give up any holiday day owed to me, I took my last one of the financial year today. I was hoping to take the Mrs away for a long weekend, but our son came home Saturday afternoon, having driven back from Swansea to drop his car off before leaving for that there London, on Sunday afternoon, so that didn't happen. Craig had decided to take up a last minute bargain holiday in Turkey, so I couldn't put down the floor in Tina's garden office, so I went to the scrapyard (u pull it york) and spent a not too disappointing afternoon acquiring parts, this is what £70 bought me the complete rear brakes from a Honda Jazz mk1 I had hoped to use Mk2 jazz rear brakes as measuring mine the wheel flange to axle flange appeared to be within 2mm of the acclaims, but when I got to the breakers, I found the stub axel is part of the rear beam so no flipin use, but the Mk1 stub axles are bolted on, the flange to flange is more like 4-5mm more than the acclaim, I think there will be enough room for the tiers, if not ill roll the arches further out. The stub axle bolts holes almost line up too I'm not sure how to proceed with this bit, options I can think of, A file it out with a round file. B fill the whole with some bar stock and re-drill C send it to a machine shop for them to fix. Brake hoses should be fairly easy the acclaim has braided hoses, if I can find a 90 deg banjo to brake fitting adaptor to join them or ill get the rear hoses remade. What I thought was going to be the biggest problem the handbrake, all the handbrake cables at the U pull it were seized or had the car parked on top of them, new sets are £60, I also picked up the handbrake and the bolt on cable clip that holds the ends of the cables, it looks like if I can lengthen the adjuster to go through the floor with a tube nut and some all thread that will put the balance bar on the outside it should all work rather nicely. Master cylinder I fetched a 7/8's one from the same car but didn't pick up the brake booster and of course, it doesn't fit the acclaim booster so ill have to order one of those too. Any thoughts are as always welcomed. Dan

For some time I've felt Frank didn't seem quite quick as he once was, today was the Maple Garage Auto Test and I found Frank's fizz. Yesterday I got Frank ready, which wasn't much, I checked the oil level and decluttered the interior, fitted a standard exhaust manifold to quieten the exhaust a little and swapped out the 195/50/15s 5 spoke wheels for some 195/50/14 minlite style wheels. BINGO, what a difference they made, 80mm rolling radius and 15mm smaller in diameter = different car.
Today at the Auto Test I had so much fun hooning around, but seeing as I was with 3 stripped out Novas, a Mini, well a Mini floorpan and bulkhead, a Caterham, a stripped out MX5 and Toyota Yaris all with limited slip diffs and hydraulic handbrake conversions. No surprise that I came last, over all, in my road going Acclaim, But first in class. It's making me rethink Frank's future.
