The basic formula is mgh ie the Potential Energy of your water supply and I suspect from your picture that you may well have a reasonable Mass m of water but not much h ie height difference from where your highest water point is to your lowest water outlet. Thus the actual amount of electrical energy will be quite small even with an efficient conversion. Maybe enough for some LED lights but, without some real data for your situation, it is impossible to give more information. The NZ site looked to be on a hillside, so an h of 100+ m - there was a good conversion of mgh to 1/2mv sqd (KE) of the water for the Pelton Wheel turbine.

At our previous house in Bedfordshire there were signs put up for an event...... SOTS, which turned out to be the Society of Ornamental Turners. They too had some amazing machines!!

We are back at work taking the rotten floor out of the "Black" wagon. A crowbar is useful Except when things need cutting! All done - now to clean up.

Great stuff! Did the brake van get a run out too? Sadly not this time. I think it is on the van train, but it could be used on the P'way train if needed. We have been discussing whether to paint a couple of Minerals in different colours - well there is the ICI blue, MOD Black as well as more bauxite. Perhaps a short rake of variety 16T wagons, as well as the lengthy train of grey ones?

Our "Lengthy train" of 16T mineral wagons passing through Quorn Station...with 10 more wagons behind! Our next wagon for restoration is the cosmetically painted "Black one" which needs a new floor etc etc!

At the A 60 bridge tonight (Sunday) I was told that the two decks and two anti-collision beams were now in place. The big crane is being dismantled. There is some grouting to be done and other finishing work over the next couple of days, then it is ready for ballast and track!

Work is progressing well at the A 60 bridge. There is a large crane there, and one of the bridge decks is on site ready to be lifted in place.

This weekend should see the new bridge decks being put on the abutments. It is also the "Last Hurrah Gala" on the GCR with an intensive timetable - including that "lengthy train" of Windcutter 16T minerals operating mid day on Sat and Sunday. In a few years time it will be fantastic to see them going North over the new bridges!

The A60 bridge now has pre-cast concrete caps on the two abutments - 44 tons each! The bridge decks are due to be put in place in 10 days time (19/20th).
