Not the most easy position ever. You can see why I was considering removing the engine to do this... Not trying to revive this craze by any chance? Link... Planking

Ugh, the engine is being a douche. I think I need to pull the head off again and recheck the valves. Sounds like I may have a couple that are sticking. Phil Compression test - would that confirm?

Been thrashing around with the side vs back fueler tank business and have come to the conclusion that the Motorsport 530i (not the USA model) that I'm partially basing my car on used a hybrid of E3 fuel components and the original E12 back-fueler petrol tank. So knowledgeable readers, does anyone know what the brackets look like to fasten the vapour tank below? The orange circles show the mounting tag and an indent that probably nestles up against a bracket. These tanks were used in both E3 and E9 BMWs. Thanks in advance. Ken.

I'd been offered a very tidy, rego on hold, 2 door E30 last year. Was an aut but came with a manual box etc to fit. Would probaby have got the lot for $1500 or less (750 squid). Just wast the right time- what with a very needy Imp at home. They certainly are on the up here though. There certainly are some tempting items down your way, transport to Northland makes you think twice though.

My favourite car I ever owned was a Dolphin Grey 320i with a factory fitted m tech kit. I bought it in 97, fitted -50mm Bilstein shocks n springs, and I had it sat on the very first set of OZ Volcano 15" Rims imported into the country with Pirelli P6000 tyres. Handled like a dream and not at all underpowered like people say. Finished it off by black painting the kidneys and a nice Scorpion zorst Loved it for just over a year before some dozy bint pulled out on my and it got written off in 99 That is one of the best colours. Were you able to buy the wreck back to recover the goodies you bolted on?

Cheers James!
Needless to say the 2.5 coupés are fetching top dollar over here however tidy 4-doors are definitely on the up. Apart from the H&R springs it is basically core BMW which has more appeal as far as I'm concerned.

Quoting GN... "So a short term job on a clients car but a fair list to get through" "Said list and I keep finding more to add to it" Perversely I like to see your lists growing - a bit like getting your favourite novel in instalments!

Where does time go??? I am continually amazed and staggered at the progress-rate of many members of this forum! I have however got a lot of work done around house and section. Minor, trivial updates: Attached radiator header tank brackets from donor E24, this car never had them. Next - planning the attachment of the air filter housing. This car originally sucked air from the other side so I have to adapt the M30 bits onto the RHS. However, setting up the right level, (rubber feet on the AFM bracket that sit on the rocker cover), brings the connector tube and metal housing too close to the wheel well and leaves the body mounting bracket at a very odd angle... Clearly the body pressing on the series 1 E12 is subtly different to the series 2. I really don't want to start bashing reverse compound curves into existing compound curves so a bit more R&D is called for. Even if I did alter the shape to clear, the body mounting brackets harvested off the E24 will be the wrong angle. As this car is being modelled on the specials of the same era, what did they do? Alpina B6 = nothing? Early Motorsport - good luck finding a spare airbox off one of these! Note the coil mounting in both of the cars above, stock series 1 which mine (had), interferes with the later air box. E9 is a similar arrangement. This is the series 2 535i, which I'd like to try and emulate by fabricating a custom bracket and lifting the AFM up slightly but will have to be careful with how much room I have under the bonnet. Whilst parking that in my head for another day, I got on to removing the bits on the front of the car to start the process of fabricating a new radiator surround. No plug on the RHS indicator - what the #### is going on here? This is what it should look like: I know this is the land of do it yourself but that is crude! Must have smacked a curb earlier in its life because this revealed itself too... Fortunately these units are still available, bay of e here I come! So with the front bumper off I confirmed an earlier gamble I had taken to be a safe choice. Namely the Alpina front spoiler that I had purchased at some $$$ was actually for a series 2 E12. The Alpina spoilers for the series 1 looked like this... Series 2 looks like this... Phew! It fits! Now for the bad news - the rest of the month is forfeit for other duties so all being well see you in October!

Did you have to do any work to adapt the speedometer output?
I envy how quickly you did this btw!

The tenacity of rust in British cars is fortunately offset by the tenacity and skill of the people who restore them!
Looking forward to this thread.

Still working hard Still drinking fuel though Especially when towing the car trailer - loaded to Yorkshire = £100 in fuel - however very comfortably & without issues and it's a luxury to have the power to get past / get out of the way when you need to so that you are not stuck behind the slow artic's trudging up the hills The was a P38 advertised on our local buy and trade site last year, someone posted a question... How many Litres per 100km does it use? Answer... People who own Range Rovers don't care about such things. I have one too - biggest load I've hauled was a Massey Ferguson tractor on a dual-axle trailer; you barely noticed the difference!

As you can see I found it, the area I cleaned up had what looked like a small crack but it seems to have rubbed out so I think it was only a scratch. If its any use to you pm me your address and I will send it, you can put something in the next RNLI box you see to cover postage. It's this kind of posting, in addition to the extreme skills and tenacity, that make this site a pleasure to read.
