Moved from my E12 thread as this project has "extended" somewhat!
To recap...
Just picked it up yesterday (March 2018), it's a 1986 320i, New Zealand new, about 190 000 km. Unmolested original, minor bumps and dings commensurate with its age and runs really sweet. So where is the interior??? Carpet was absolutely full of water so spent most of the day getting out. Having done that I commenced a number of leak tests: sunroof drains (my favourite!), scuttle grills and firewall area in general. All good, no ingress into the cockpit at all and as you can see, no rust either. All of the door rubbers are fine too. So once the carpets are dried and cleaned I'll be tidying up a few cosmetic bits and using it as often as I can.
3 pedal auto!!!
More evidence of changes afoot.
The car had drum brakes on the rear, so is being swapped out for disks. Easiest way to do this is to change the whole arm. If you are doing this conversion don't forget to get the handbrake cables too.
Quick session with wire brush then good ol' Hammerite. 14 Sep 2020 - A warning: I've noticed that you will get a ticking off by the more experienced members of RR for using this stuff, so best used on garden implements etc.
Give everything a good clean whilst it is exposed.
Rear bushings are being replaced with new ones whilst everything is exposed. This seems to be the best way... Replacing trailing-arm bushes
Ready for reversal of disassembly.
Comparison of H&R spring with factory standard.
One side done - new disks and pads whilst I'm about it. Parking brake shoes were ok to reuse.
