May not be in anyway related, but worth mentioning I think. I remember some people having overheating problems when fitting V6 3VZFE engines to MR2's, while others had no problems. Turned out to be down to some aftermarket water pumps having a different impeller design and basically not moving enough water at slower rpm. EDIT found a pic and some info Pump on the left is a Blueprint pump (uses the same design as a genuine Toyota pump) pump on the right is QH (different design of impeller) The QH pump caused overheating problems, which disappeared after fitting the Blueprint one. This was confirmed by several MR2 engine swappers. As I said may not be relevant, but may be worth considering if a new water pump has been fitted. That was how they cured the Triumph stag's notorious overheating problem by adding more vanes.

Going on the basis that some manufacturers like to over complicate some things. Does it work if the passenger seat is occupied?

I'm still curious about the water pump, take the top hose off the rad and start the engine, is the water being pumped out of the hose?

Rad is brand brand new, it's the old fashioned brass type, just a replacement Series 3 one. Filler is the highest point. It's not just the gauge reading, it's the steam from the rad, that gives it away! The gauge probe is position is stock, in the front of the inlet manifold next to the thermostat. The gauge is a few degrees out (reads hot), but that might be down to the elevation here in the Brecon Beacons! Just moved here and, of course when I needed my thermometer probe, couldn't find it! Haven't done a HG test, but the last few times I did it, was very inconclusive. However, you could see the bubbles in the coolant from (I think) a cracked head, even when the coolant was cold. No bubbles this time. I'm wondering if the wrong water pump has been fitted, turns the opposite way. The pump looked nearly new when I removed it to change the camshaft. The only other real difference is the Serps drive belt, it's missing a few pulleys (air con power steering), perhaps my new routing is turning the pump the wrong way? Is that possible? Yes check the belt routing and the water pump are correct for each other. Because as you can see direction is evident.

Hi, Back in the day we used to put them on the drop glass side of the upright frame, the quarter light opens behind it and with the clamping screws tightened it squeezes the rubber channel so the drop glass goes past it.

It may not be rust but brake pad dust and possibly drake disc dust. Try soap and water and use of scotchbrite, if not move onto TFR and a stiff brush or scotchbrite again.

Be careful with those wheels they come from a time when they can be Magnesium or Aluminium. The dearer ones are the rarer and lighter Magnesium ones. Magnesium degrades with age and are less trustworthy. The cheaper ones are Aluminium and more stable. An example of a degraded Magnesium wheel. -

Then you would need a Dixon Bate adjustable one, 150mm. They're a bit dear for a one off job.

I would be more worried about the balance of the crank, considering how high bike engines rev.

The reason the cracks have closed up is because you've re-hydrated it by putting it in the humid/wet atmosphere of the dishwasher. If you leave it to dry they may well open up again.

Ahh, right, in that case check the loom for damage. You may even have to unwrap the loom to check that another wire has had an excessive load through it and melted the insulation of itself and surrounding wires, and it's picked up a leakage to earth. Colin Mmmmmm that has stirred a thought, going to check something tomorrow, the idiot might be me, lets hope so, DOH Surely not.

How does the wattage of the lamp in the link compare to the one that broke?

Hi, Cut off and dress up the mounts on the rack. Bolt a piece of angle to the uprights and secure the rack to the angle with exhaust 'U' clamps. Simple and probably cheaper than another rack.
