My Jeep can tow 3.5 Tonnes, unfortunately it's lifted (looks great!).
Is a drop plate a good solution? I'll be towing a Land Rover SWB (about 1300 kg) and it's a one time thing.

standard thing on most 4x4's, and some vans dependent on the trailer vs towbar height.

Yes getting the trailer level makes a big difference in towing comfort and is obviously kinder on the trailer tyres.
Actually have one fitted the other way as a lift plate on our RX300.

Had a measure up and I think my Jeep is too high, even with a 105mm drop. The tow ball is 570mm from the ground and a 105mm drop won't take it down to the max 420mm height allowed. Worried that a car transporter trailer will "drag" its  . |

Then you would need a Dixon Bate adjustable one, 150mm. They're a bit dear for a one off job.

Think I'll give these a try, adjustable. It's not just cheaper to hire a trailer, it'll save me about 5 hours of driving too. |

Now my brain isn't what it was but as an ex drop pate user I seem to remember it being a bit of a grey area, so I now use an adjustable hitch.
The tow bar will be type approved so would need to be type approved with drop plate. Its very unlikely it will ever be an issue but talk to my mate who T boned a car that pulled out in front of him, it clearly wasn't his fault but the police went over the vehicle, trailer and tow bar with a fine tooth comb and managed to do him for being over weight by a very small amount, the trailer manufacturer made two trailers that looked identical but had different weight capacities, so got off with the accident but done for trailer weight..

Tandem trailers that are not towed level can fatigue the draw bar (A) where it meets the main trailer body.

Not going to get into the type approval situation, but you can use a long drop plate if it has bracing from behind the ball itself back to the chassis somewhere.
