Incredible build! This is surely the definition of 'doing it right', I'd dare say it could take on daily driver duties better (and for longer) than most new cars when it's done. Good luck with the rest of the build

First of all, my proverbial hat is entirely doffed. Secondly, I'd never have though to bother contacting the police about a car they had 20 odd years ago. Turns out they can be of use sometimes! Are you just restoring it to car spec or going for the full police spec?

Pre catalytic converter cars (as previously mentioned by a few folk) is the general 'retro'/'boring but not new' cut off for me. Classic requires a whole other level of criteria though...

They havent seen him drive there or going out. Surely this is taking a curse word. They're the ones taking the "curse word"? Was it airlifted into the car park or did he have pukka plates and he just changed them while it was parked up? There are things that will attract attention from the police, dodgy number plates is of them. Dodgy number plates and stretched tyres would be irresistible.

I'd guess it was unlikely, or at least very difficult. You're aware that 'banding' wheels is adding a band of steel to make them wider, not change their diameter?

I was looking for repair kits for my roof on ebay (my screen is ok) and found a lot of screen repair kits. I've no idea how well they work, but a roof re-skin is a PITA job that would take most of a day. The other option is to get a good roof already on a frame, then it's a bolt on job.

I'm after a complete as possible rear subframe so I can refurb and rebuild one off my car and swap them over in one go. I'm on my phone so I can't see your location, where are you?
Cheers

Been thinking this one over a little while and had a brainwave! Cabriolet seats. Often they don't have anywhere to mount the seatbelt block at the top, so they are integrated to the seat. Old Saabs, BMWs, Meganes... I don't know if any of them have integral belts, but they might

You make it look so simple! That would probably take me two days to, and not half as good a job.

I don't think its warping that is the issue, it's flattening them off so they balance properly. TBF, I think you'd be able to do a good enough job just grinding them flat.

If you've already done lowering blocks, I guess the next thing is decamber-ing the leaf springs. There's a couple of posts in this thread about it and the homemade tools to do it... retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=127635&page=1TBH though, I don't think it will ever get 'on the deck' without chassis mods. I remember this one in Fast Ford a couple of years ago, I'll see if I can find it tonight to see what he did. Couple more pics here: www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3990260.htmedit: This was on the advert... seems there were some chassis mods. I got very excited when I saw that, and headed to the bottom of the page to find out where it was... Only to find it wasn't a turbo One of those with a turbo, maybe lose the rear spoiler, perfect daily car!

When you said Chevette, I didn't picture that! I was wondering what on earth the engine was that you mentioned. I guess I should pay more attention and read 'Chevrolet' and 'American', rather than getting excited at the word 'Turbo'! The car looks properly mean though, and I quite like the steels on it (even if they're diametrically challenged). I was on my mobile when I replied earlier so didn't catch your location, else I might not have suggested looking for carbs from increasingly rare old Euro boxes. I'm sure there must be some American cars of the early 80s that jumped for turbos before EFI. Incidentely, a very good friend of mine used to live in Chilicothe and always harps on about how he misses it edit: You get Volvos over there right? They've been keen on turbos for ages... I found this page which looks promising but isn't in English... Click on the link for R-Sport link on the left. www.vikeboe.com/re-edit: I translated the page and the parts sound pretty rare. errrm... RX-7 turbo? I should probably stand back now and let someone who has some actual real knowledge help!

Have you a university nearby? We've had some stuff NDT'd by a local uni at work.
I'd try to get a better idea of what your wheels are really made of first. Real magnesium wheels are pretty rare, especially old ones. In ye olden dayes, alloys were often called 'mags' despite them not being magnesium.
