Comprehensive reply - Thank You Dez.
That seems bloody simple compared to the curse word I had to go through with my previous rebody. Serves to ask the right questions, I guess!!

Hi all, I want to rebody an 1960s-1970 chassis with an even older body from a "normal" car. How do I set about keeping things legal? I might have access to two or three pre 70's Land Rover chassis, for example, with shot bodies but weldable chassis. BUT - the body; Would I have to own V5 papers just for a body off a 1930s-1960s car in order to install it and register the vehicle properly? Or can I just buy a body with receipt, off a breaker? I don't want a Q plate. The chassis, running gear and all will be as the original vehicle. The body will be from a non-monococque car. I might install a different engine to be more useable. reference: webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/RegisteringAVehicle/DG_10014246 on DVLA Points system for vehicles. Can this be done without losing the Land Rover's Historic vehicle status? I hope this makes sense. Have any of you done something similar in the last 5 years and survived the DVLA? I have done this the opposite way - Making a 100" Land Rover Lightweight by installing an extended body onto a 1990 reg Discovery chassis. It was easy as pie (registering), it is now registered as a 1990 Disco. But the Govt did not stand to lose any road funds....if you know what I mean.....am I over complicating it? does the same rules apply here? Many thanks - AGAIN!

Hello, yes, 'tis I! No big surprises finding you in here. This is to take its place next to my Lightweight and a W114 Merc hopefully. I am bit worried about Candy and some of the house of Kolor themes because oif what you mentioned re whole panel repairs. Am I to understand that pearls do not have that need. This is a violet pearl over Turquoise base: Thought this might make the car a bit more modern in looks without showing up as a major difference when the doors, boot or bonnet is opened? Would it diminish the chrome that is on the car...I have NO imagination, I tell you! Or imagine a Navy/midnight pearl or a Red with a violet pear to set off the chrome...yum.... Regards Udhi

Hi all, I need to start thinking about a finish for a Volvo P1800E. It came with a Flat 1970s Turquoise that needs a blow over. I cannot justify a full change of colours as it might mean dropping the engine out, windscreens and what not. So....what do you think of an overspray with a pearl - perhaps a violet tint? I just cannot picture what these things will look like, is there an online resource where I can see what the results would look like if different tinted pearls were laid over a base? Any help appreciate of course.

Hi all, Can you contact me if you have or know of someone who might have a W123 Coupe. Doesnt matter if it is running or not as I plan to do an engine swap. But the body needs to be in decent condition, so I don't spend too much time caught up in welding and painting.
Me in Lancs. Can travel provided price is ok.

Hi all, I am looking for a good bodyshop for work on my 1971 Volvo P1800E
Need someone to do the cutesy stuff like: Install the outer sills Install a replacement Wheel Arch Weld and LEAD FILL four joints where the Wings join the main body. Patch a few holes along the low line outer bodywork Possibly spray paint it/go over with the current colour (non metallic)
Lead Loading skills are important, as filler is bound to crack off this flexibly body.
TIA ;D

Hi all, I have a Volvo P1800E that is having structural work done at the moment.
The Welder is "agricultural". Although his structural work is beyond doubt I just don't see him doing a good job on the bodywork.
I need someone to weld wheel arches, outer sills, and wings. They also need to be able to do Lead Loading. It would be a bonus if they can repaint the worked areas or possibly the entire car in its original colour.
Any recommendations? Nearer to Preston, Lancs, the better.
