Well, as you may of seen in the 'cars for sale' section not that long ago, a Merc W114 2.3 diesel, 4 speed came up for grabs. I've been after one of these for sometime, I guess I was lucky that I was online when Lee put the advert up, even more lucky that it was a whole 15 miles from my workshop and had MOT/Tax so I could limp it back, I say limp as it has a very broken seal in the clutch master cylinder. Anyway, less blabbering, more pic's and details.
My basic plans are to sort the bodywork and paint in gloss black, get all the bright work, bright again, re trim or get a better trim for the interior.
The plans that 'will' happen when I have more time/money will be, fit airbags and basically make it fully awesome................
or..............
Here it is at it's first day at my garage.........
She is looking pretty good, as I bought it in a very darkly lit alleyway....at night!!
With in a few moments of the shutters opening, I got it straight onto my ramp, checked all the chassis, suspension, brakes and all the nooks and crannys.
It really surprised me, the brakes are like new, the brake lines have been replaced recently, there is no welding needed but, the exhaust is in a rather bad state, both engine mounts are fubared, a rear shaft looks haggered and the front shocks look like they are about to explode in my face.
But, it's so much better than i'd of expected.
Interior wise, its a jekyll and hyde situation. The seats are buggered, shot, fubar, kaput.......the dash board, door cards and trim however, is near mint!! No pics of the interior apart from this one of the dash clocks........RETROOO!!
Then onto the bodywork.............WHOA!!! Well, I think over the course of years it's had ALOT of paint, some of it sprayed on, some rolled on but most brushed on and I really do have to emphasise on the brushed on bit, there is LOADS of it, I think the amount of cash i'm going to be spending on flatting the old paint back is scary haha!! Rust wise, it's not so bad though. The worst parts are the front off side wing and the front near side door, amazingly a local panel shop near my garage had a wing and door skin in stock!! So, I bought them straight away. Onto taking 35 years of paint off the car. These are just of doing the bodywork, mechanical pics soon......
So as for now, thats as far as I have got. On the look out for a clutch master cyl and a few odds and sods. There will be more updates when I have less customers cars to work on, can't wait to get this painted, it'll be miiiiiiint!!
Last pic of the car, the boot is MASSSSIVE, a fat lonely man agree's.........
