looking good, is that a PPP subframe? be interested to know how much of a difference it makes to handling That is a PPS subframe rather than a PPP one. Lotta good work going on there Eric, interesting read. I did like those Mattigs, they look almost like original VW steels just wider. I like the resprayed engine bay, looks very tidy. Do you intend to use an intercooler and oil cooler with the turbo setup?

Fantastic work going on here, just love this conversion. The stretch on the rear and moving the light housings out is just right. It's a shame you couldn't have kept the wheel arches a bit nearer to Mini proportions though. What wheel/tyre size are you intending to use?

Just so everyone knows, the hero points and pork scratchings belong to me. It was at my local yard I spotted it, spoke to the owner to not do anything with it, let the boys on the mK2 cavalier forum know, and then Brett spotted my post and went and got her. So, how many hero points am I due, and pork scratchings... yum yum! Ok, well done that man. How about I knit you a jumper for next Christmas! ;D

If this were mine (I wish! ) I'd be looking for a set of slightly higher profile tyres, probably 205/60's. This coupled with a small drop and decent dampers and bushes would help retain the lovely ride these have whilst improving the arch gap and overall stance. What's the story behind this one? Is it all original or has it had a resto? I see it's a Ghia but is it injection or carb? Hurry up with some better pics, it's nearly 24 hours since you posted this up and I'm getting impatient!! We NEED the following pictures: Interior (front and rear) Dashboard Underbonnet Boot area Various exterior shots from all angles (preferably at a picturesque location) ;D ;D

Superb project this. Just a thought, but if the two racks are the same bar the mounting points, could you not strip the new Spitfire rack down and utilise its high ratio rack and pinion components and rebuild them into the 2000 casing?

One of my all time favourite cars, I'd just love to have the time and funds to build one properly like this. I love these when they look standard with period paint and interior but full of Milton goodies underneath. Keep us updated with this, superb work so far with lovely welding skills going on.

Blimey, you've had a busy morning! This is the sort of build I like, an excellent choice of modern running gear with a nice old classis body. I hope you do keep the Clubman front, you don't see many and I really think they look good especially in estate guise. Keep up the good work mate.

Martin, you can't be that far from the big four zero! Seriously though, would you ever adjust the coilovers once fitted?If you needed coilovers to set the chassis up on a heavily modded car or did a lot of track work then I'd say that coilovers are worth the expense. It's a lot of money to spend when the Koni/Eibach combination would probably give a better ride and handling compromise on the road. Get your sensible head on, if you can find it!

That is a little beauty! What is the mileage and has it had a full respray? I'm almost sure the seat fabric isn't VW correct, but who cares it looks superb! VW's of this era had notoriously bad wearing trim anyway, this looks like the sort of velour used in old Vauxhalls? It's a slippery slope the old modifying game though. It starts with a little bit of lowering. With that done all the VW boys start telling you it needs different wheels. 6 months later you get bored of the new wheels and choose some other rims that are probably a bit too wide and it ends up needing arch work to fit them. Then it needs lowering even more to get the desired look. Then you think about something else and so it goes on. The car never gets returned back to original spec and is effectively lost in the world of "slammed Dubs" with stupid roof racks and stickers everywhere.. I'm certainly not saying this is what you'd do and it's your choice at the end of the day if you did, but it seems to happen so often to mint original classic cars of all makes. That makes me sad. This is a stunning car, love it for what it is. Get it really mint and keep it that way. Drive it and enjoy it. And keep the pictures coming! Cheers, Richard.

Thanks for the reply chairchild. There are lots of people using this setup on Polo G40's converted to K03 turbo, it's fairly well documented now using off the shelf conversion parts. Many of these run over 20 psi without problem. The 1272cc engines are very strong and the 1341 bottom end is done using 77mm forged pistons. The standard ECU is fully mappable, 22psi and over 200BHP is attainable with good reliablity. However the G40 Polo has room at the front for a large FMIC. The one they use is slightly wider but thinner than the one I have. The end tanks aren't so well designed either, being quite squared off. My mk2 doesn't have the same room, hence me using a universal one. It's well designed but a bit deeper than I'd like.

I've got a really nicely made universal fit intercooler from Rally Design for my mk2 Polo project. I have managed to make it fit behind a heavily modified bumper but it is quite big. The core measures 500x240x65mm and the end tanks are quite large, overall it's fairly heavy too. I keep debating whether I should get the intercooler cut down to around 180mm high, it'll give me safer amount of ground clearance and make it a bit lighter. Will a reduction in volume help reduce lag? Engine is 1341cc with K03 turbo, will be boosting to circa 20+psi with water/meth injection. Any thoughts or shall I leave it as it is?
