hi guys, hope you are interested in this, i will try to keep this updated as i go along. after selling my race Beetle i decided to build a car that could be used both on the road and on a track if needed, i looked at the usual escorts and decided that as they were not for me, both the mrs and myself love anglias so i started to look for a likely project. I saw this on ebay, lowish mileage but accident damaged and stored for a while it looked good on paper, i went to see the car before bidding and it looked really good, here are a couple of pics the interior was mint and there were a couple of sets of wheels and a set of cortina struts included, i decided to bid and dropped lucky and won. i immediately dropped it off at my mates garage for him to repair the rear quarter and any other rot found, luckily it wasn't too bad, we removed the rear quarter and prepared for renewal the sills are mint we blasted the under arch area to look for pinholes, nothing found pulled the boot floor as it had wrinkled slightly in the impact

we then moved onto the front wing area small localised repairs were made while i ordered some lower wing repair panels, when they were delivered he took one look at them and threw them across the workshop floor, we won't be using them then!! He remade the wing bottoms by hand, i have lost the pics but will update this with the pics of the finished job, i was amazed at how they looked, i could not tell they had not been original parts! we then started to plasma cutter the gearbox tunnel out the original plan was to fit a 20v turbo vw/audi engine on to a mazda rx8 6 speed box so i needed a bit more room around the box, this will still probably happen but the guy developing the adaptor plate is dragging his feet and i want to get some use from this, i have all the parts so watch this space...

more pics its been filled with a retro ford tunnel and looks really neat, the floors and sills are as new and only need blasting and painting,i have a spit being delivered tomorrow so over the weekend i expect to have it rolled over to start the underneath. i repinned the door hinges and welded the wing mirror holes and that's about up to date i have bought a AE86 engine (rwd toyota corolla 1600 16v 8500 rpm screamer )and t50 5 speed box, i have ordered some of 105speeds excellent kit (exhaust system and manifold, water conversion, radiator, injector bungs and inlet manifold for 40's) i have ordered form Milton(Anglia handling gods) the following steering rack kit adjustable tca's front coilovers rear shocks weld on front and rear anti roll bars polybush kit a frame kit strut brace reverse pedal box and reservoirs it will be on 4 spoke revolutions with 175/50/13 yokohama rubber looking forward to the rest of the build and some track day hooning around:D

In an effort to get this to go around corners at daft speeds there is only one place to go for suspension and steering mods, Milton Race preparation are THE Anglia handling gods, expensive and the wait for bits is approx 10 weeks but the quality is amazing sooooooo...... Today was a good day My Milton parcels turned up Steering rack conversion with adjustable track control arms Rear anti roll bar kit Rear a frame to locate the rear axle and stop axle tramp strut brace and full poly bush kit shorter steering arms (quicker steering) and 2.5"lowering blocks Gaz front coilover conversion rear weld on shock absorber conversion reverse cylinder pedal box front anti roll bar clamp on kit just the bodywork to sort now and i have almost all of the bits i need to finish it

almost up to date now, I could make all sorts of excuses for not updating this, but basically I am bone idle and have not touched it, I bought a Karmann cabrio beetle earlier in the year and have loved driving it, I have now put it away for the winter and work on the anglia has started we (my mate H and i) had the anglia on a rotisserie and blasted the underneath with a mobile sand blaster, it unearthed a couple of minor holes that were swiftly welded up and we then gave it its first coat of acid etch primer, we will seam seal everything before stone chip and paint, small steps but at least we have started again i'm all fired up again on it but it will slow down when I go back to work next week, had t make the most of today so last night we seam sealed the whole car then after it dried we stone chipped it (6l on so far ) and today we primed and topcoated, the interior was also blasted and etch primed but I don't have any pics of that yet that's it so far, under the wings and bonnet tomorrow all being well

small update all the underneath is now finished and in body colour, my mate is straightening a couple of panels out (very minor) so i thought i'd get on with the running gear, i stripped the axle of all paint and bits of rust and welded on the brackets for the anti tramp and anti roll bars, as well as the rear shocks and lowering blocks rear anti tramp all the rest and it should look like this when finished i'll trial fit it tomorrow and get some paint on it, as well as tidying the garage out, it's like a pig sty at the moment!

One of my all time favourite cars, I'd just love to have the time and funds to build one properly like this. I love these when they look standard with period paint and interior but full of Milton goodies underneath. Keep us updated with this, superb work so far with lovely welding skills going on.

Fantastic build on one of my 'list' cars. Number 1 on the list in fact. I'll watch this thread as apart from wheel choice you're building my ideal Anglia!!
