I had a quick minute this evening, so I figured I'd have a look at the non-working drivers side main beam. Turns out the connection on the back of the unit was slightly corroded so a quick wazz over with some wet+dry and that was sorted. Good job really as they are sealed beam units and I'm not sure where I could get one at short notice in this country lol After I'd done that, I thought about the lopsided look of the dark grey headlight surround and the chrome one. So I took them off and painted them both satin black, looks loads better I think! The chrome was peeling and generally tatty on the 'good' one so I don't feel bad about it!! Hopefully have a tyre fitted on Wednesday then MOT on Thursday! I can start on the interior then.... ;D

Can anyone think of any cars from the 90s (that may be easy to find in the scrapyard....) that have integral 3-point seatbelts? Any Volvos of that era perhaps? I need one more seat to go in the back of my Chevy G20 conversion van and would prefer something with a proper belt to a lapbelt....
Ta!

I've just bought a Chevy G20 tintop dayvan and I need a 225/75/15 tyre for it as one has punctured in the sidewall.... Anyone got one (for not too many pennies!)?

Well, she's home! It was an epic... err... 'mini' road trip of around 18 miles. Sunday, after I agreed the purchase I dropped my mate Phil (2002Gimp) a text, much excitement ensued and as we were both off work yesterday (he just back off holiday, me at my daughters' sports day in the morning) he was going to come with me to collect it. The sensible option of driving up in a car to get it was quickly dismissed and we decided that we'd go on my bike, chuck the bike in the back of the van and that way we both get to enjoy the sumptious luxury that waited for us. Then it rained. A lot. So we got wet, still went on the bike though (as Mr Gimps' photo above attests to) Drove home without any problems - took me a while to figure the wipers out (they are upside down and on the left hand side! lol). Initial impressions are that it's fantastically comfy, plenty big enough for my plans and has enough power for sensible (read MPG friendly!!) cruising speeds of 60-65mph. In short, I love it! Just a couple of jobs required for the MOT. It needs one new tyre as one had a sidewall puncture and the spare that's on it now isn't ideal and a couple of bulbs need sorting out - everything else (bar the air-con and I've not tested the cruise control yet as I've only just found it!). Even the awesome radio works! So enough talking, time for pics! Check dat ass yo! Teh comforts Choonz! Interior needs work.... For teh poorlyz For teh cleanupz Oh, it's a Mark III dontcha know! Happy days!

Y'know that 'OMG what have I just done' feeling when you shake hands on a deal. That's me today, that is A little background on this purchase first I think... I had a Lexus LS400, fantastic car, but I wanted something with a bigger boot. So I bought a LR Discovery. That was too slow and a bit juicy (even on LPG), so I bought a Passat estate. That was FWD, manual and I didn't really like it, so I bought a Jeep Cherokee. I know I like them, I've had one before. Plan was to do a couple of little jobs on the Jeep (new tyres, service, LPG etc.) ready for the family holiday to France (me, the Mrs and our 'combined total of' 3 kids we leave 5 weeks today....). Plenty of time, no rush, bung it through an MOT and job done. Then this bad boy appears on ebay. I bid and I don't win. 'Meh' thinks I, easy come easy go, continue with the Jeep Then a week or so later, it reappears on ebay with the usual 'timewaster'. Now, it's close enough and cheap enough, so in the dying seconds, I bid again. curse word, literally the second before I hit 'bid', someone else had put in a bid of just slightly less rendering my bid not enough (seeing as his was put in first, I'd have had to bid £20 more than his bid). Bother says I, but just on the off chance, I email the bloke selling it saying if it falls through, drop e a line. A day goes by, and I get a message 'give me a call about the van'. So I do and it turns out this person was also a timewasting dreamer, I arrange to go and see it this morning. Off I go, and I arrive just as he's pulling it out of his lockup - realistically, so long as there was no major grot, I'd already mentally bought it... A reasonable inspection ensued, followed by a test drive round his yard and all seemed well. The interior is missing the rear 'rock and roll' bed, and the 'middle' captains seats don't match the rest of the interior. And the carpet is a bit rank... But they are all jobs I can do at my leisure, so long as it's mechanically sound (which it seems to be). Sadly it's only a V6 but meh, it's not a speed machine anyway, and although no more economical (except maybe round town), it makes servicing slightly cheaper (only 6 plugs instead of 8...!). Anyway, the deposit has been left, and I pick it up tomorrow. I've just got to finish the few jobs on the Jeep and get that sold now. Anyone want to buy a 1998 Jeep Cherokee ;D ;D More pics as work ensues - if it survives France, it'll be at the gathering. I've wanted one of these for years, I'm an excited little bunny today! What's even better is that it will fit in my garage so I can happily work on it in the dry - knew I'd built it for a reason.... ;D

Finally (after ordering them on the 17th May!!), my last roof tiles arrived today. After taking a couple of hours TOIL from work this afternoon, picking my daughter up from school and visiting her school fete, I thought I might as well 'just have a look' up the ladder. An hour or so later and the 'quick look' had turned into 'I'll just put the last 40 odd tiles up ready for the ridge tiles' Fingers crossed the weather will hold out until the weekend (unlikely...) and I can have a bash at getting the ridge tiles up. That'll be another first then ;D

I'm off up to Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon to collect a set of wheels and tyres - if anyone needs anything taking up, let me know. Just a few quid towards my fuel is all I ask! Cheers, Martin
