How you gonna get the convertible roof done? Clever calc's going on or fly by ear? Always wondered on this when ANY car is chopped up like this.....

Minor update thanks to Willie's marriage...  Screen frame, b-pillars/belt mounts, c-pilars/boot deck, additional rear belt mounts and the front seat mounts should be in this week. Roof John? No roof. Tonneau with kayak style skirs for rain. And a 2nd car. ;-) |

Current state:  Been doing lots of to-and-fro with Mark Vickers @ VOSA technical. Properly helpful beyond the call of duty, enjoys what he does, and likes anything that's different and put together vaguely properly. Nothing to be afraid of unless you're a bodger without a clue. (which is why you can't legally register a Jankel armoured XJ8...) Only three issues - Airbags. They need to go, and anything that says 'SRS' on it needs re-trimming. Careful about switch radii. OEM stuff probably won't pass if it was hidden by an airbag before. (exempt zone) Axle weights. They absolutely can't go up, detail unimportant but basically a strategy by VOSA for getting rid of dodgy stretch limos. This nixes the dickie seats in the boot idea, and may have nixed 4-abreast across the rear seat if we want the towbar, but 5 seats and a towbar is fine. The OEM brake pedalbox. Its a plastic piece of trash. If DIY built it would certainly fail on excessive flex. The tester may fail it even as an OEM/homologated item as its so bad. Alloy job off an X300 would sort the brakes but cause grief on the drive by wire throttle front. Will suck and see. Booking the test and finishing it in July, build diary to be posted. :-) |
