The velour bargeHere we go again, I've been daft and bought another motor blind off ebay as I thought it looked cool and different... The wheels and velour sold it for me ... doh! Yesterday I caught the train to London and was met at the other end by the seller, nice bloke. The deal was done, I was handed the keys and a carrier bag full of history. I love the lines of the car .. the wheels are original Frameless windows, and lights in the door, nice touches Mmmm .. velour, so soft Remove headrest and recline the seat = bed The drive through London was ok. The autobox picked up nicely from a standstill and the engine temp stayed where it should whilst in traffic. First test passed. Along the way I was playing with buttons, theres a few, and some are in odd places. When you find out whats where though it all makes sense and seems quite logical. Most of the buttons make a reassuringly curse word eighties beep M11 ... So the car has cruise, lets see if it works. OMG working cruise, awesome, so the next 50 miles or so are done without touching the pedals at all. A quick stop for food/fuel and to read the owners handbook (the original one) as I couldn't find high beam. A quick flick through and I found which switch did high beam, so I set off again. Very Citroen-esque I thought Climate controls on slidey things on left, wipers on twisty thing on left. Cruise control buttons on right, indicators on weird flappy thing on right. Headlamps on twisty thing on right. High beam is pull flappy thing on right The 2.4 4cyl (4G64 GDi) pulls ok and the 4spd auto works as it should, kicks down nicely and revs hard when you floor it ... or press resume on cruise ;D I tried most of the toys in the car and so far the only thing I think isn't working is the radio, which is a shame as its a really curse word 80's Phillips cassette player and suits the car. The only real rust I can see is on the roof near the sunroof and its not pretty. I think the sunroof seal may have been leaking and someone put gaffer tape around the front edge of the sunroof. Its now quite crusty where the tape would have been. Did I mention the service history? well, it came in a carrier bag and includes every MOT from new and receipts for more oil changes and tyres than you would believe. There are some real gems in the history; including a letter to APEC brakes asking if the pads he got for Xmas are the correct ones for the car (they were) so theres a receipt for fitting them. Anyway plans for it are unsure atm, as I have too many cars and this or the Lancia were supposed to be replacing the Saab as my "big" car. Its only got about 3 weeks test left, so I'll stick it in for a test and see what needs doing then think about whether I should keep it or not ... I want to keep it as I love the eighties quirkiness of the interior and the lazy driving but I really need to trim down the fleet.

Cheers for the comments guys, good to see its not just me that thinks its cool and different then.
ra28celica: From what I can gather these are 124bhp, not a huge amount, but enough to cruise nicely.
Trigger: yes it was the AS ebay tat thread that put me on to this. I really should stop reading those sort of things.

Great save, I used to work on these when they were new, rare then as I bet we only ever sold half a dozen in the 4 years I was there. Ref the radios, we had to take the original ones out as they did not have FM and we replaced them with Philips ones. The steering was super light if I remember. I have a late eighties Lancer auto which is faultless to drive if a little bland

wow! I used to have one of these. Swapped a citroen XM for it and ran it about for a few months. It was a red manual and the owner before me had put straight through pipes on it so it was very very loud!! I was working shifts at the time so was getting up for work after 6am. Knew it was time for it to go when I came out one morning and all four tyres had been slashed. Never found out who did it or why - only conclusion was that the noise reverberating down the terraced street I lived on at the time, must have wound some one up!! (never had any car issues before or after with any other vehicles on that road) Great car, interior in mine was very tatty though your looks mint. Indicators where great when you got used to them - remind me what are the sliders for on the left of wheel? Supposedly lowers at a certain mph? I never noticed a great difference in handling. Well done mate

Ok, so this had been left standing for over a year .... I really don't have the time to do all my cars justice, so I need to trim down the fleet. This however is staying. Last week I put it in for an MOT, and it failed quite badly. A couple of tyres, cv boot but the brakes were shot. It needed 6 of 8 flexis and most pipes replacing. The rear shocks were also an advisory. Thankfully though it didn't need any welding, from the history it has had a couple of patches in the past. My current job leaves very little free time (and less energy) to work on cars so I left the car with the garage in the hope they can get the parts required and fix it. Luckily the brake flexis are from the Mitsubisihi parts bin, so those don't need to be custom made, and I know he's good with the pipework, so that won't be a problem. Yesterday I went to see the car and most of the brake work has been done, he's just waiting for the last 2 flexi's. We decided as replace 6 of 8, he might as well do all 8 and give the braking system a fresh start. CV boot is still needed, but that's the least of my worries, worst case a universal one can be fitted. A couple of tyres were required, my local garage/MOT station doesn't have posh tyre changing facilities, just old skool tyre bars, which can damage alloys, so I'll be sorting the tyres out elsewhere. I had some spare wheels in 4x114 fitment so took those to put on whilst I took the original alloys for replacement rubber. I like the original so thought those would be staying ... until I put my spare wheels on. I really liked the little 14's I fitted to the back, but unfortunately they only just clear the rear brakes and no chance of getting them over the fronts. So I'm now looking for some quirky wheels for it, but theres no rush as I don't mind the originals. I think some nicely dished wheels or star mags would look good. Feel free to make suggestions for wheels or pm offers of any 15/16" one's you may have spare, 4x114 c/b 67 Plans at present, the sunroof surround is a bit of a mess, rusty and crusty. It desperately needs a new seal on it as well, so I'll get that done and the car will likely be going away for sunroof repair and a blow over spray job. I'll be getting it done in the same colour as I don't think it needs changing, just refreshing. Back wheels, the ones I really like atm are Enkei Apache 2's but cannot justify spending more than the car cost on a set of wheels... However if anyone fancies photochopping them on the car, I may have to start saving for them. I think I'll just keep checking forums and ebay for the time being for some old funky wheels .... Oh and I need to fit a working stereo.

Can't be many of these left in the world. Dad had the V3000 version in NZ, 3L v6. Until he traded it for a Nissan Laurel diesel. The V3000 cruised so nice, mum didn't even notice I was doing a tonne. Dad did notice the time I spun it into a fence. Keep the old girl original.

OMG do I have any suggestions for wheels?? Evo 1 2 3 fitment. Also the uk made honda civics(shame,I just weighed some civic wheels in as I put evo1 enkie's on the wifes areodeck) You are spoiled for choice. Also the 4g64 block is a real gem. The same as the 4g63 used in the early evos. These 4g64 blocks are very sought after in the evo community as a change of pistons and rods gives a 2.4 motor capible of silly figures. Have a look on evo123.net and show the car on there. Some wheels 17x 7.5 compos Evo 2 std fitment OZ 15" 18" enkies Stock fitment evo 1 enkies. (coated black) These go for peanuts, but are such a lightweight wheel. Some Ebay 17" 17 x 7 compo's Rota grids teamDynamics list goes on. Loving the Sapporo. Please make it nice !!! Take it its front wheel drive ??
