Glad this is getting some attention. If you fancy selling those 14" wheels let me know as I could do with some wheels for my 1986 Lancer. Regards parts - it's always worth trying Mitsubishi, I have a very friendly parts guy at local dealer and he's sourced most parts form my lancers (I have 2!!) and also for an L300 van I have. Yes sometimes prices are dear. But the L300 i'm turning into a camper and I picked up a genuine side glass for £70 + vat the other day which I didnt think was bad.

Think it suits the wheels it has on! Looks great, I love that blue velour, much prefer that stuff over leather, it's unbelievably comfy.
Agree on Mitsubishi parts - I spent 1,500 on stuff for my Starion, they had pretty much everything in (from Japan).

Cheers for the comments guys.
David: I agree on the velour, that was a major part of me buying it. oldschoolcool: I'm not sure about this, but wouldn't Startion wheels be staggered and different offset with it being rwd?
I do quite like the original wheels as well, but wouldn't mind trying something else. I can always go back to the original ones if I want.
I tried one Mitsubishi dealership, can't remember the name, but my local one in Grantham and they were useless, couldn't even find the car on their databse/catalog. John (Donttellhimpike) did recommend one in Nottingham (again, can't remember the name) but it's not too far away, I'll have to try them next if I do need anything I can't source locally.

I've just spoken to the garage again and all the work for the MOT is done. I'll go round tomorrow to pick up the cert so I can tax it ;D The cars not going anywhere just yet though as I'd asked the garage to do a cambelt change on it as well. I do have history of it being done 30k ago, but that was also over 10yrs ago, so the belt is overdue. He took the cover off to look at the cambelt and the balance belt had no teeth and the bearing literally fell apart. Good job I wasn't driving when this happened or it could have caused lots of problems. We've now decided now to replace all the belts whilst he's in there .... Once the belts are done theres just the cracked HT leads and rear shocks to do. The shocks were a tad spongy, but not a failure, I may actually change those myself With any luck I'll have the car on the road this weekend. I'll then be saving pennies (or selling cars) to pay for the sunroof repair and respray.

Great news on the MOT work and on catching the cambelt before anything disastrous.

Cheers Si, any news on when your Galant will be on the road again? It was a bit of a "thank god we caught that in time" with the knackered balance belt pulley... as well as a brake pipe actually bursting (and dumping most of the brake fluid) during the MOT, and not when I was driving it to the test. There's a lot of work going on that I wasn't expecting, but a fresh start on the brakes and all new belts should be less worries going forward. I'm hoping to use this car as an occasional work barge to cheer myself up after driving the bora too much, so I need it to be reliable. I'm really looking forward to driving the old barge again. I'm not looking forward to have to give it up for a couple of weeks or so for the paintwork to be done, but it'll be worth it. If the cars on the ramp when I go round tomorrow I'll take a few snaps of things

Hi Chris, the Galant may be back on the road as soon as next weekend, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Is it just a general blow over it's going in for?
Will look forward to some photos of it up on the ramp.....

Sounds good Si, fingers crossed for you mate.
It is just a blow over I'm planning on having done. To me theres nothing wrong with the colour, it just needs a refresh after 23yrs. A few panels are weather worn, and the paint is generally flat all over. Then theres the rust around the sunroof that'll need removing and patching, then repainting. A friend of a friend, who I've met on a couple of trackdays, has quoted me very reasonable "mates rates" for the work.

I'm back from the garage with the car The cambelt has been done ... look what was removed: Collapsed balance bearing pulley at top, cambelt tensioner missing the odd bearing below ... I was lucky. Whilst I was at the garage this afternoon I had a delivery, shocks, HT leads and shiny number plates. These were all fitted this evening by myself and gtidog (Nate). I've been mentioning the issues around the sunroof but haven't posted pics of it, well, here it is .... The main damage looks like it was caused by a previous owner taping up the sseal, and water getting under the tape rotting the metal. It's not nice. The small hole at the back is of much less concern. There are so many nice little touches with this car you don't always notice them, heres one I noticed whilst changing the HT leads: Clips for the HT leads actually on the engine, a thoughtful touch. Anyway, the cars road legal again and running very nicely, so I'll use it for work a couple of days next week as a run in. I do a minimum of 140 miles a day whilst working, so it should give it a bit of a shakedown.

Those bearings were well and truly shot! Yep, I don't think the belts would have lasted much longer on those bearings. I'd have been gutted if they'd gone damaging the engine. Talking about the engine, I read somewhere that this being a 4G64 twin-cam heads from other Mitsubishi's can be bolted straight on ... I think I need to do more research before I contemplate things like that. I shall not be turboing the car though, it's a large auto barge and in my opinion not suited for things like that.

All was going well, so I took it down to Norfolk at the weekend for a bit of a run, 200 miles or so round trip. Only slight issue temp gauge stayed a bit low, possibly thermostat stuck open, no biggie I can sort that out later, at least it's stuck open. Today I was using it for work (trip over to Brighouse, then Burton and popping to see some wheels in Leicester). M62 roadworks, just after Leeds the car starts to overheat. I look for somewhere top pull over to let it cool down, none, metal barrier at the side of the road, so I try to nurse it to somewhere safe to stop, it dies I get recovered to Hartshead Moor services, the car turns over freely, but theres no compression. So head gasket definitely gone, and possibly other things in the engine .... Its now at the garage awaiting head removal to see whats happened. It will live again, but not sure if it will be with this engine. If there is major damage to internals I might have to look at fitting a different block. I'm thinking a 2.0 n/a 4G63 ... Apparently 4g64 and 4g63 are interchangeable to some extent. i shall investigate further if needs be.

The 4g63 and 4g64 in your year will be almost completely inter-changeable, but the ECU's on these things are a bit finicky, and probably wont like the change in displacement. They are a super simple motor thou, wont be a hard fix.
Possible you were a bit low on water the other day, so the temp sensor has nothing to read, thus sitting a bit low?

Same steering wheel as the Proton MPi 1992-97. Proton also liked to make use of the Mitsubishi parts bin.
Anyway, I hope this is all fixed now. No updates since May.
