1990 Galant VR-4 - Now with video!

Yum! VERY nice Galant!

Following the sale of my DC5, I've started picking up a few more bits for the car, most of which will be installed when the engine is dropped out next week to get the slipping clutch changed:

- 42mm Aluminium Radiator
- Silicon coolant hoses
- HKS Induction Kit
- HT Leads

And just a couple of nice to have touches:

- Machined gearknob
- Sparco pedals

We're hoping that the clutch will hold up for a couple of dyno runs so we can benchmark the car before any work starts and we're also going to firewall the boot prior to fitting the fuel tank, swirl pot, etc. in the boot at a later date.

I got the cage from Evo123.net, it's a Cusco 6 point cage designed for the Evo 1-3 but went in without any real modifications, with the exception of plating the floor as the VR4 floor isn't flat in the same places and we had to pull it in a little on the rear arches.

Mine wasn't in good enough condition to keep standard. It'll slowly get tidier as I find things and sort them out.

The wheels are the next thing I'm after for mine too. Its hard to find something decent thats in fitting with the style of the car though. The wheels you had were good too, why the change? Temptation?

It'll look awesome with the green wheels!

Yesterday was a case of sorting a few things out, getting the fiddly pedals on, the new gearknob and installing the rear firewall to the boot:






And today was supposed to be a case of dropping the engine out to allow the replacement of the clutch and the fitment of various other goodies:





So after some effort it was out:




But since we didn't know the condition of engine, we decided to take a look at the head. And with that we got to this:




And found this:



It seems like the valves and pistons had become acquainted at some point in the cars history! Early next week, we'll have a chance to find out the condition of the valves and the crank along with everything else. But it looks like a stroker kit may be in order with a reground crank, new pistons and rods........

BTW how will you be running the blow off valve? are you going down the GM maf route?

Those HT leads, are they long enough to reach the coil pack? as I've had trouble sourcing the cyclone variant of the 4G63 HT leads as they need to be longer.

The HT leads are a little too short but we're going to fabricate a new bracket to move the coil pack so they'll fit. I'll let you know about the intercooler hose as we're thinking of hard piping the intercooler pipework and going for a larger front mount, stick tucked away behind the bumper though. If we do, you'll be welcome to the standard pipe.

The decision on the next steps should be early this coming week. How's your car coming along?

I'm not sure if I'll end up using the dump valve in the picture, I may stick with the standard recirc one.
