Sorry but why on earth would you consider "chucking it" and starting again ?? If I'd managed to create something as complex as that I'd be very happy, Loving your creativity and fabrication skills as usual Nigel

Hello and welcome to another thrilling episode of look at my rusty hole where I will be exposing everything, warts and... err, err, hold on, that doesn't sound quite right. Ok, I've given myself a good talking to and there is no point moping around. I am fully aware that rust is the gift that keeps on giving and that the 'prize' is always bigger than you were expecting and I should be prepared for that. I'm not saying that I won't be hacked off if there happen to be any more surprises, just that I need to accept it and press on regardless. YES.........this......👆👆👆👆👆👆 I know this feeling so very well.....as I'm sure many others will do too. For me....I'd be happy with progress I'd be making and thinking about the next step. I'd be planning the weekends of work that lay ahead, thinking that everything was under control. But then..... out of nowhere....and as if it was placed there over night.....more rust would appear and ruin it all! Quite often putting me back by weeks....even months! It really messes with your head. But the fact is, it's there, so you either pull your hair out and cry about it.... or just take it on the chin and sort it! ( I did a lot of crying before getting on and sorting it.....I won't even mention the hair replacement therapy ) Anyway......blooooooody good show as always sir!!! The quality of your work proves that it'll all be worth it in the end! Dan.

Sorry but why on earth would you consider "chucking it" and starting again ?? Nigel Funny you should mention that, Nigel... The concours person might lift the seat and sound deadening and point out its not got the factory rust installed.... Great work as always, you continue to find a way but don't loose your Mojo worrying about bits that need to be not rusty as a priority. James I don't envisage any concours in my future because I soon lose interest in polishing cars. I need to keep the mojo going because the Doctor is keen for me to remove all the BMW bits from the downstairs toilet... A relatively routine Saturday, ignore the alarm clock for a bit then Ten Acres Cafe for breakfast followed by a trip to the creamy bun shop for supplies. When I got home I was struggling to motivate myself to get to work. My back has been particularly painful for a while so I put a heat thing on and drank tea for a bit. I eventually dragged myself outside and made a start. Remember this? The observant amongst you will notice that when I roughed this out I made it so it sits inside the original floor. I did it like that because it was easier to check the fit. What it means though, is that the groovy bits are going to be a bit too narrow. So to overcome this I moved one edge of each groovy bit. like this. You can see the marked on line where I moved it to and also the chisel marks from the original position where I had gone at it like a bull in a china shop. I should have been a bit more careful with that. The small groovy bit was a bit less rough. As the whole thing is quite curvy and had a lot of bashing to stretch the middle bit down. This meant that the right hand edge of the piece was now too curved and did not sit down on top of the floor nicely. If we revisit the first picture from this post you can see the shadow along the right hand side (this was how I left it yesterday). With the extra work that had gone in to it today, it was even further away from fitting. To sort that out I used the stretcher along that edge. Those lines in the surface are from the stretcher jaws. With that, it was looking quite good. I thought the front edge of the transverse groovy bit needed to be pushed down a bit deeper to match the original. I marked up where I wanted to move it. When I got it into the shed it was easier to hit it from the reverse side so I gave it a thorough bashing. When I turned it back over I had thoroughly bashed the wrong edge of the groovy bit. This was the edge that I had made once (over hammered if you remember), moved a second time to the correct position and now I had mistakenly moved it a third time. The metal was now too badly mashed up to be able to get it back into shape so my final tweak, which I probably could have managed without has ruined the panel. So now, it has been chucked away and I will have to start again. I am a little bit disappointed about that... Cheers.

You are going through doorways whilst making these parts aren't you - When you get to a certain age the spell cast into every doorway and staircase by the Doorframe and Staircase Makers Guild will do its evil task - The spell is only a mild one but that thought regarding the thing that you were going to do or get will be wiped or rearranged as you pass through the doorway or step onto that first tread. There is no fixed age when it happens and some spells are a little stronger than others. I am pretty sure that the Jewish faith have tried to reduce the effect by the use of the Mezuzah but I have no concrete proof if that's the case or if they are even effective. The only way to truly get around the problem is to keep all tasks to the same room or take a carefully written note sketch or set of instruction with you. It can also be reduced by a constant chant of the task you are to perform - just do not pause or get interrupted. My wife is constantly asking me about the guild I keep mumbling and swearing about. When you see a chippy rubbing his hand on a door frame murmuring away - he is not singing along to Dire Straits and admiring his work - he's one of the guild. So TB -it's not you - it's the guild PS If not going through any doorframes or up and steps - Stonemasons are even more mischievous - then it's just you not bloody concentrating. Still - super work - even your scrap is 95% better than most seen elsewhere

I went back to the tent and it wasn't in the car. It eventually resurfaced on the windowsill inside the conservatory. I don't remember going into the conservatory...

When I got up this morning the weather was awful so the Doctor and I went out to try a newly discovered cafe that is open on a Sunday, which seems to be quite rare around these parts. Had a nice fry up and a very large pot of tea. We went shopping after to kill a bit more time and to get some lemon fancies (can't get them at the local supermarket). The weather cleared up late afternoon so I managed to motivate myself to go into the tent for a bit. I wanted to get this bit of the rear seat area sorted because I had hoped to have that finished yesterday so that I can get on with the rotten grommet hole next to it. I didn't take many pictures today because I wanted to crack on and also it is really difficult to photograph inside the car with the LED work lights. I usually end up with large areas of shadow on it and it takes four or five goes to get a picture I can use. I just didn't have the time or enthusiasm to faff about with that today. So, this is the bit that was coming out. You might be able to see up near the top left corner there is a spot weld I drilled out. This is the only spot weld on this piece where it is joined to the axle carrier panel. This is the new bit stuck in, you can see that half of that hole i drilled is still there. There was about five hours between the first picture and the second hence why I didn't mess about trying to get pictures. This is the point where the internet went down as it has been doing at least once a day for the last fortnight. I am now on first name terms with the BT diagnostics bot. He identifies as male and likes to be called Clanky. It now appears that Clanky wants to send an engineer to look at our fault so when I will be able to complete this post, FK knows. Right then, BT is still down but my daughter has instructed me on how to link my laptop to my phone by some kind of unfathomable witchcraft. The next bit to do is this, which is the bit I was supposed to be doing until I discovered that bonus extra bit that I have just done. Does any of that make sense? I'm not sure anymore. Cheers.

Point 1, Conservatory, yer posh git. You wouldn't have had that problem if you didn't have a conservatory.
Point 2, Mrs Sweetpea says you need a wife who can remember stuff on your behalf like I have. Although, to be honest, I'm not completely sure she isn't the one that moves my stuff around so I can't find it.
Point 3, Er... It'll come back to me. Just give me a moment. I only just game back in the room you see, and, er...

My 'conservatory' is just an extra room to keep car bits and shoes in. Point 2, Mrs Sweetpea says you need a wife who can remember stuff on your behalf like I have. I only just game back in the room you see, and, er... How did I get here? Where is that large automobile? Tonight I had a look at this. I have begun to rough out a piece to fill this hole, at the moment it isn't very exciting and It is still in the embryonic stages but I have made a start. That circular(ish) recess was present in the original panel but it has fallen off. There is still a load more work to do on this before it is even close to fitting. I have got a long day ahead at work tomorrow so I might not be able to do anything, we'll have to see how it goes. Cheers.

As I've currently got Covid it's where I sit and drink Gin & Lemsip while instructing the gardeners by megaphone. FYI my car bits and shoes are stored in my carbits'nshoesory

I think that most peoples wives like to hide stuff and claim to have absolutely no knowledge of it. I certainly have a poltergeist of some description in my house.

Tuesday was, as I suspected, a late finish so I didn't get anything done. Wednesday was the mother-in-law's birthday so we went out for something to eat. I had a lovely ribeye steak, BTW. Today has been a really lovely day, I got home at a reasonable time and wanting to make up for lost time I opened up the shed and tent straight away. No sooner had I done this it started persistently raining because of course it did... I decided to press on regardless, despite the fact that the job at hand involves lots of trips between the tent and the shed. If you remember I had made a start on this. There are lots of other creasy bits that need to be introduced. As I hadn't bothered to make a hammer form for this bit and I'm just going at it freehand, I had to mark it up roughly where the creases need to go. Then I went to the shed and used anything I could find to hit it with or to hit it against. I managed to stick it out for about an hour and a half before I was wet enough to think about calling it a day. It is starting to take shape though. There is a fair bit of curvy shape in this as well. It all needs to meet up with the existing floor because the top end of the piece is where the axle carrier panel is spot welded on so I would like that to be reasonably precise. It is getting there. I'm not home and dry but I am vigorously towelling myself off. Cheers.
