A mate has just emailed me photos of a white FD Victor saloon with red interior just like my old one (in its stock "before" state) looking unloved, local to me (ish) and possily available for sale/saving.
Will attempt to ad pics later.
I'd need to be able to hide it somewhere safe for a bit...
Can't even be thinking about another car but it has a "buy me" face.

Am I right in thinking that you recently decided against buying your old one? Buying one that is nowhere near as good instead seems like a recipe for disappointment to me...either that or you'll spend a load of time and/or money making like the one you decided against.

Yeah, you are quite correct on all counts there. This is seldom a matter of logic....

You could hide it in the boot of the Cadillac... ;D I know what you mean about the absence of logic when buying old cars. You do seem to have unfinished business with a Vauxhall Victor, maybe it's an itch that has to be scratched. You...you didn't expect objective opinions from this forum did you?!

Your old one was definitely worth buying, but not this one.

Having worked my way through a wide and varied amount of cars over the last ten years, I'm almost back to the ones I owned when I started out. At the time I thought the beach buggy and Volvo track car were stepping stones to 'greater' things, so I bought American, German, Japanese... Tried all sorts, the kind of cars I then realised other people aspired to own, but not me. What I'm saying is that maybe your Victor business isn't finished, but buying your old car back seemed like step backward. Instead buying and building a new one to the standard you wanted back then may be the way forward. That is of course a huge commitment, I've slowly collected all the parts I wanted for the buggy and Volvo down the years, now having almost two entire cars of each. Go figure...

Even the 'Tina was in the same sort of mould - I think people who have a passion for a certain car can't really get away from them. I bought a white rapid in 2005, did very little with it, sold it, kept all the bits I had for it, and bought another, much rustier, white rapid in 2010 which I brought home on NYD 2011 to start the very same plans once again. Do eeet.
