my mate is looking for some new rims for his midget, but he isnt sure what to go for.
The pcd is 4x101. Will 4x100's squeeze on?
The biggest he can squeeze on is 14's - so whats your thoughts?
btw, minilite style replicas are on there at present.
this seems to be the best pic i have of the car, its a dark blue, bumperless, with headlight grills on the front lights. And lowered. all very typical 'tuned classic'

If you can get 4x100's to fit you're laughing - plenty of choice! Specially with him being limited to 14 inchers. Glad he ain't going the Minilite route - the world doesn't need yet another small British sportscar on minilites.

I'd not suggest using the "wrong" PCD, even if it's only 1mm out.
People have died due to doing that... seriously.
I've owned cars with the "wrong" PCD wheels, and it wasn't until I looked into the stresses I was causing my wheel bolts that I realised how scary it was.
Seriously, don't, just find some 4x101's, please.

i think you can get tapered bolts or similar which would make them fit up perfectly, no? failing that, its nothing a file couldnt sort out! ;D ATS classics are winning at the mo

really Keefy, don't do it.
Yeah you can get offset wobble bolts, but then the radius washer sits with un-even pressure on the bolt, meaning the radius washer has a weak spot. It might "fit", might even "work" but its not right, and probably not safe and that "probably", although may never happen, might, and that is a scary thought.
I had an RAF engineer talk to me about this kinda thing and the dangers involved, he fixes planes (Harrier GR7's and GR9's) for a living, he knows the strengths and tollerances of metals and knows his physics.

There's a bloke on www.theimpclub.co.uk wants to swap a set of Revolutions for some Minilites. The PCD would be spot on, but they'd only be 13" and he'd need 13" back... Graham

You REALLY need to stick with the proper 4" PCD, but don't worry because you can use Mini wheels so there's plenty of choice. A set of 13x7 Superlites should do the job nicely.

Mini wheels will probably have completely the wrong offset, and spacers are a bad idea as the wheel studs aren't very strong. Does it have square rear arches or round ones? Square rear arches don't like wider than 5.5, and even then, are very offset sensitive. If he goes with 13s, watch out for clearance around the trackrod ends, as apparently the ones currently available are a bit bulkier than the original type. In addition, if he's fitting wide wheels & tyres, this will load up the front suspension a lot more (the location is pretty poor already TBH with just a lever arm damper for the top link) so a Frontline kit might be a good idea. Tell your mate to sign up on here: www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbsso he can access the archives - there's LOADS of info!!

hmmm, not the hugest selection out there then. May have to try and tempt him with some revolutions.
he has the square rear arches. I cant see any changes making any difference to steering etc as it looks like any new wheels will be very similar in size to what he already has. He's spent ages sorting the front already so may well have a frontline kit.
he doesnt use forums much, but i have sent him the link, thanks.

My brother has a set of allycats for his midget which make a nice change from minilights and revolutions, they do need slight machining of the center (actualy is such a tiny amount you could get away with filing it) they are 13x6 with a 12 or 13 offset so will stick out a bit, he was thinking of some slight bubble arches though. As for wrong pcd, not only is it dangerous but you will sh*g the bolt seats on the wheels.
