Thought it was time I updated this a bit. Car is currently with a MBAutomotive who are tidying up my DIY efforts and finishing off what is left. They have lowered the engine about 2" as it was sitting too high. Before After Comparison is a bit misleading as the before shot has the rad, intercooler etc in but you can see the difference by the angle of the cam cover. Also notice how much closer the turbo is to the chassis rails. To do this they have sunken the rack within the cross member and added extra bracing Before After Other things they have done are Modded mount for oil filter clearance Rewired the loom (bottom left) New fusebox Made gearbox mount You can see the cutout for the exhaust which is the next thing on the list along with a swirl pot and new fuel lines. Looks like the home straight now Couple of developments my ECU had a daughter board in but for whatever reason this is now dead so will be going nistune, mapped by MBAutomotive. Also turns out that the engine has had a fresh rebuild so thats a plus.

Only a small update, not a lot of progress but some more pictures. Engine looks tidy now its installed properly Not sure if this will work or not, will see I guess. Existing tank is being used but a new custom swirl pot has been added, new fuel lines are run etc. Also battery will be going in the boot. Will get a plastic battery box for it, might end up with a fuel tank in the boot as well. Unsure. Put the dash in so it looks like a car Also gearstick comes through spot on. Think nissan made the engine / box with this in mind! Hmmmmm I'm sure something goes here Yep thats the one. Cleaned up fairly well tbh. Need a new wire brush to finish tidying it up then will get a new coat of paint for the next 25 years. Have since removed both the seats and trialled the bucket seats which will fit as they are but I'm going to modify the floor so they can be 4 inches lower. Also removed rear shocks and the top link arms which were a right pita. Slowly working my way through removing everything that holds the body to the chassis as there are a couple of areas which need attention and I think the glav is it at the end of its life really. Enjoy. slot I was going to go cosworth V6 but I couldnt find a gearbox that would take the abuse this car is going to get

OOO nice sales brochure, is that £429 for fiesta doors!? HA. Unfortunately project as taken a bit of a back seat since the last update as the part time degree I have been doing since I started work has finally come to a close so I had to focus energy on dissertations, exams etc. Anyway all done now so will be hitting the workshop hard this weekend I'm now down to "get this on the road" mode aiming for mapping in September time. Expect an update in a few days Tenman, the car gets funny looks wherever it goes, nobody has a clue what it is. Engine is a nissan Ka24de(t) ps I have chosen a new paint scheme but shhhh.

Whats next is the other side! Only took me 5 months! Progress has been severly hampered by mostly lazyness but also bought a house and a stable mate: Yeah I should really get some decent pictures of it by now but oh well. Thats now 2 new years resolutions to get the Ginetta back on the road since it came back from the garage. This time it really will be back on the road this year. Honest. Probably. I know that painting the chassis with the body on still is only half a job but tbh the original galvanising has held up really well, its only really where it gets peppered by stones and other road curse word that it has chipped off and just starting to corrode. So I'm hoping to stop that in its tracks and fingers crossed the tops of the chassis members will still be solid. With luck ill have another update before the end of the summer.

3 resolutions! It looks like we are actually getting somewhere this time Car has gone to another garage, one that definitely knows what they are doing and I have challenged them to return the car with an MOT. They have an attitude of doing things properly which means we have taken a couple of small steps back but the car will be much better for it when done. First thing they found was that if we want to run a ride height of this: It makes the upper wishbone look like this and the lower arms look like this Which is less than ideal. We still have the issue of the bump steer to fix since the rack was lowered into the front cross member (check the angle in the pic above!). You may remember that I bought a 280mm front brake setup with customised hubs to suit an adapaters So the plan was that these hubs would slide onto my cortina spindles and everybody would be happy. Yeah, that didnt work. The hubs and spindles that I have bought are modified Capri items (used on some sort of Kit). The Capri hubs actually help with the bump steer problem as the connection for the steering arm is around 50mm lower, it is also removable and therefore we could make up a new item that would relocate the connection as required The downside to all of this is that we need to fabricate new upper and lower wishbones. We also found that the wheels I had bought are no good. Well the fronts are okay but the rears have been redrilled very badly so they are off centre. As the suspension arms, pickups and hubs are now all being custom built we needed to get some wheels ordered that we will actually be using so new present time. These arrived yesterday 17x8 ET25 which appears to be about as wide as we can go at the rear due to the live axle. Here's one mocked up at the back This has around an inch clearance to the inner wheel arch without any tyres fitted. They are a bit blingy considering the state of the car but we'll sort that out nearer the time. The garage are also remaking the engine mounts as they want to raise the end of the gearbox up because it is pointing to much at the floor rather than the rear diff. We have also been told that the rear axle is not a true atlas but is a cortina heavy duty axle, the refurb company we have spoken to don't really know what the differences are and don't seem to be particularly interested in looking at it. Does anybody know anything about these? Thats you all up to date for now, hopefully there should be some more regular updates going forward

The Cortina can come with two axle types - Salisbury (Atlas) and Koln - the Koln axles are a not highly regarded.
My G31 (about to go to a new owner) is at a similar front ride height with the bump stop shaved off to a 1/4" I did contemplate at one time cutting off and dropping the wheel arches as its the arch gap that is offensive not the actual chassis height which gets very low when you run with the wheel looking correct in the arch. With the standard wheels being 7" and having such a low offset its not as straight forward as sticking some wider wheels on and dropping on some small arch flares. I looked at cutting off the arches - flattening the body above the swage line like standard Fiesta and then bonding on some M-99 Fiesta MK2 arch flares. This would correct the look of the arch clearances and increase the body width between the rear side window and arch which looks to small to my eye.
Nice to see that the car is still progressing.

Thanks guys.
We are just looking at options at the moment. The main reason for changing the front around is the clash between the rack and the sump which isn't really working out.
The plan is to run 100mm ground clearance to the lowest point of the chassis and maybe lose the front subframe.
Sorry to hear that your G31 is moving on to a new owner, was one of the few interesting builds I could find on this chassis.

Wheels and proposed ride height looks very promising. It will be well worth the trouble.
Peugeot 309 indicators instead of the 205 could work to, they were always clear and a bit longer. So they give the lights a more chunky look.

Thanks guys Pug 309 lights looks interesting. As ever with this car we have taken one step forward and three back. Managed to get a mockup tyre on one of the new wheels, I think it looks pretty good. But I am going to have to put them up for sale :/ The Cologne axle needs a rebuild, local specialists don't really have any interest in it and are telling us to buy a built Atlas instead. The decent Atlas axles are well into four figures. After some out of the box thinking we bought this: Which is the rear end from a nissan s13. Because the wheels are 4 stud we were hoping to use an s13 rear end which is 4 stud, redrilling the hubs and discs to 4x100 and then keeping/fitting the wheels I already have. However getting hold of cheap S13 parts seems to be hardwork and getting the hubs modified to suit is probably going to cost more than i'm going to lose from reselling the wheels. Therefore I am on the lookout for s14/14a/15/r33 rear subframes, arms hubs and brakes to fit. We will also be using matching front hubs to try and keep some consistency in the car. That said, the s13 subframe is only 5/10mm narrower than the later frames and otherwise the mounting points are the same. So while I source something a bit fresher we have moved forwards with this rear end. Does anybody want a new sink? There is now quite a big hole in the rear end It is good to see that even the tops of the chassis are in a really good condition, the galvanising has definitely done its job, really quite impressive when you consider what you would find on a TVR for instance.. The subframe looks like it will be a good fit, some of the steel is going to come out of the rear end to simplify and strengthen the chassis and I will probably get talked into installing a rollcage at the same time. In other news the gearbox / engine have been realigned to raise the rear of the gearbox up a bit which has required some more gentle modifications to the tunnel (Yes the gear knob will be changing!) And here is an s14 front knuckle compared to the capri knuckle we have been working with We have hit a bit of a deadend with the capri knuckle as we cant get a bottom ball joint that will fit the taper correctly so the change to 5 stud makes things a bit easier. As you can see the s14 runs a trailing rack rather than a leading rack which will help a lot with the rack/sump clearance issues we have and will help move the steering column away from the chassis as it is rubbing at the moment. We are going to make some brackets up to fit to the top of the s14 hub to allow fitment of a balljoint to keep double A arm front suspension. You can also see new mounting points for the front suspension arms which are being setup to allow a lot of flexibility to the front geometry to be set for either a better track setup or a better drift setup. Fingers crossed it wont all have changed again in the next update!
