Thanks to the J-rot thread I've been reminded of my now departed Subaru Leone... GL, coupe, front wheel drive... Ooh.
I didn't think it warranted a full thread, but after the harrowing day I've had (it was collected this morning). Here's a little tribute to a car you'll probably never see, and I'll sure as never own again... That's what clinched it for me really. Scary thought.
Anyway, I impulse bought it over the phone after it popped up on here via VZi. The pics of it complete were on a now defunct hard drive and the thread is lost in the annals of wherever. But basically when I got it home it had more rot than I was told about, funny that... Only got myself to blame I guess...
So I stripped the front end off and found this. Rotten fliches on both sides, dodgy wing rails and holes in the front valance big enough to put your fist through
Not to be deterred I contacted Subaru UK to get some history. They told me 220 were sold in the UK from 77-79 and my car had no warranty claims on its history... They even sent me a photocopy of an original brochure.
The good news was that the interior was mint, 25k on the clock and it looked original.
That's an original advert on the seat, from America is was just plain weird... Going on about sinking into her seats, she needs to be tamed etc.
Here's another in the series... Hope you can read it.
Trouble is it languished in my lock-up all winter, no spares are available and my fabbing skills are needed elsewhere, so I decided to sell.
I called Subaru to see if they were interested and to cut a long story short, they were, we did a deal and they picked it up this morning... It's going to be restored by one of their longest serving guys who's got a couple of old Brat pick-ups too. Then trotted out to shows and the like hopefully... ;D
So I guess all's well that etc... But it still leaves a hole in my lock-up, and I feel like I've failed a new friend. Here's my little tribute...
That's where I want to be...
Pretty damn close, but no cigar... Turns out there was a truly dazzling array of these coupes, some 4x4 etc
Not strictly the same model, but you get the idea of where I was going to go with this. 155s, whitewalls, roof rack, JDM mirrors...
Right, where's that ebay thread... I've got some cash.
