Quick questions for you guys: Has Retro-Rides changed your outlook? eg. Did you come to the board as a Mini fan and discover a previously unknown desire for a Datsun? Have you become unable to walk down the street without pointing at previously un-noticed 17 year old Vauxhalls? What car have you found yourself searching ebay (or Yahoo!) for that you'd not considered previously?

Still very biased towards Monza's Senators and Carltons but I have an far greater appreciation for J tin and many other cars.
Also I'm gaining knowledge that I couldn't get from a 1 trick pony forum.
Changed my outlook - Definately

:)I feel like I'm a better person since being a regular on here.
I'm still very biassed towards Skoda, and TBH I don't have any real desire to buy anything else, but my outlook on other cars is much more "open minded". I can accept cars now that before I was very "intolerant" towards.
It was the "Blinkered" thread a few weeks ago that really changed me, as it made me aware that I was actually just like the people that were being discussed! Damned impressive thread that is, and maybe one that should be a sticky.

yes it has,its the knowledge that there are like-minded others. before i came on here,i was almost apologising for driving old cars, now if people don't like it then i tell them to get stuffed.its certainly opened my eyes to the potential of other cars, but i will probably always drive imps.

For me it's less about the knowledge of cars and what I've learnt, more about the tolerance of so many types of car and styles. I think it's great that there's a place where my crappy old Datsun is appreciated alongside Skodas, Reliants and BMWs and no style of customising is universally disliked.
And where else do people love old brown curse word English cars? Love it!

Messed with cars for years (decades ) , but this forum has made me discover things I didn't know (e.g. Bozozuku cars ;D). The other thing I discovered was ... a car/vehicle site that isn't 'blinkered'/biased towards one theme/style/design/fashion!

When I joined RR (thanks to a flyer on my Benz at RCS 04) I was really glad that I'd found a place full of people that shared my desire for old cars no-one else liked! I think it's made me broaden my horizons a bit more though, and analyse my own opinions about cars. I doubt whether I'd have ever found out about Garuchan J-Cars if it wasn't for this place!

Yeah definitely. I had no idea there was a scene like this and I felt like a bit of an oddity to be honest. I did however come on here mainly as a hotrodder and my eyes have most certainly been opened.

Dunno, I've always had quite a broad interest in a lot of types and styles of cars. I'm mostly from a hot rod / yank tank / 60s classic background and thats really where my interests remain. I guess its just great to see people enjoying thier cars regarless of what the origin or style of them is. Oddly this place makes me nostalgic for my old Saab 9000...

I'm not sure whether my perception has been shifted massively. It's just good to know that you're not a lone voice in the wilderness. What the forum does do is give inspiration and insight. My eyes have been opened to just how easy it can be to make a cool ride for not a massive amount of pennies.

Good one Rmad, think this will be an interesting thread.
Wouldn't say it's changed my views as I've always been open-minded but I have learnt a huge amount about different styles. I'm probably the opposite to some of you people on here - knew very little about the VW/Euro/Cleaned stuff, but the J-car side of things is something I've been immersed in for years now.
The pool of knowledge we have here is immense and seems to cover pretty much everything. It would make me more comfortable about buying something else, because I know there'd be someone on here who could point me in the right direction without getting involved in a million separate forums.

Yup! Its been nice to come onto a forum where people are laid back and don't be little people because of what they drive. I've been introduced to the fact you can make literally ANY car cool which I think some of the rides on here proove.

Yes, the acceptability of collecting for one. previously it was me and my few car mates against the world! And i'll agree with Benzboy I think if anything, i see more stuff i have to own more often rather than just focusing on the short list! either way i have still ended up with a random fleet! ;D Generally top place, wouldn't be the same without it now!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Retro Rides has changed my outlook on cars completely.
After owning several retros I lost my way completely for years and only 6 months ago I was considering buying a Lotus Elise. Now all I think about is how much retro goodness I could get with the same money. All because of a chance purchase from Benzboy and ebay.
Now I love this place, I find it trully inspirational and am regulary in awe of everyones knowledge and passion.
Long Live RR!

I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said here... Although I haven't been around here for that long, I think RR is one of a kind. I've never been obsessed by a certain marque or model as I think there's so much retro-coolness among many makes. And this is what people here seem to value. Also the fact that I'm not from the UK and still welcomed here is nice!
Thanks alot HoTWire and the rest of you guys for this site and all the ideas that'll eventually cause me to be moneyless, homeless and probably girlfriendless in the end.

Yes, definitely changed my outlook. I was always a big 'old car' fan but very biased towards VW's, and to be honest, they are still my favourite, but the wealth of knowledge and variety of stuff on here has really opened my eyes. I actually find myself having unhealthy thoughts about owning/modifying old J cars now... what's going on? I find myself checking in here more and more often to see what's going on, as above - many thanks to HoTWire!

i think it has changed my views. certainly towards Japanese cars. before I'd never have considered them cool at all. Same for the Euro look. Saw a Mk1 goof euro'd up in the main car park in Ciren. previously I'd have dismissed it as stupid, but now I know about the whole scene I can appreciate it. You need to keep learning and this place is a great teacher.
