Hey Mic, I didn't see you sneak over here!
Too dark for the Pop photos unfortunately, they were right down the end of the line of cars and once I'd finished chinwagging my way down it had got dark! Both really well put together though.

It's every month on the last Saturday of the month, but mainly on Chelsea Bridge now so you'll have to take a walk from Victoria Station which is closest.
For anyone who does come along it is STRICTLY old stuff and generally hatchbacks and the like aren't tolerated so that the max brigade aren't inclined to join in. I have to say the PT Cruisers did lower the tone with all the neons and booming loud music. While the new residents still see it as a novelty I can't see them tolerating it month after month and it will quickly get banned again if it continues like that.

I too wounder this, Remember it on the kings road back in the '80's when I used to live in London. Also the unoffical car show/meet in Battersea Park. Best bit was how it used to go on into the night and by the early hours of the morning you would have the bikers seeing who could pull the longest wheelie along the battersea bridge . All this was amazing to someone of 18 year old at the time Glad to see it still exists

:-[Thats a shame I the '80's when I used to attend Anything was welcome I remember in September 1988 that although the 1950's Yank tanks were the 'stars' of the evening there was also loads of 1950's/1960's British cars, also prewar cars, the local Ford XR and RS club had a meet (wouldn't be that old then), Mini owners club, MG Club, VW Beetle club and Austin A35 club. In fact the 'Chelsea Cruise' used to be something every car club in the London Area would attend. There was no loud music and everybody got on. I would say becareful it doesn't become 'blinkered' ...you say no 'Hot Hatches are welcome yet in 1988 some of those '60's Amercan cars would only be around 20 year old (and were welcome), yet remember today a MK1 Golf GTi 'Hot Hatch' is now over 20 year old (yet you imply not welcome ).

IIRC, it was the behaviour of the hot hatch brigade who ruined the Chelsea Cruise for everyone else in the first place, hence them not being hugely welcome now. Also, J69 said that the were generally not welcome - I take this to mean that the driver's behaviour would have a lot to do with it - a Golf GTi Mk1 driven by someone who is capable of exercising restraint in their stereo volume would probably be welcome, but a Max Power car with vibrating windows wouldn't be. IMHO, the later would lower the tone, just as the PT Cruisers did (see J69's post), & no doubt cause complaints from the residents & wind-up the police, thus risking jeopardising the future of the event all over again......

Aye, a lot of events have (or had) no FWD rules to keep out the tossers. Simply because of the trouble they cause. One cruise a guys new candy paint job got damaged because of idiots handbrake turning in the pub car park throwing stones up everywhere. That Boyd Coddington '55 or so Ford got wrecked by some ass in a modernish vehicle skidding into it in a car park. Turned out he wasn't insured either from my memory? I only read about that one on the NSRA webby though. I've even been to modern FWD orientated meets where the flyer says "no Max Power type behaviour permitted".
But then the rodders and yank muscle all do burnouts leaving cruise venues, the Ace, where-ever and thats perfectly OK?
I used to go to a decent cruise and then the max-muppets started turning up and then there was drug dealing and p!ssd up people leaning on other peoples cars (not good if its a rod or classic yank with like five large in the paint work!) and getting aggressive. Last of it was when some lads brought up a couple of stolen transit vans which they were doing handbrake turns and the link with until the cops broke everything up and the cruise never ran again. I wasn't there for that one but a mate was and he was saying there was practically gang fights between some of the max muppets and the classic/rod/retro/yank crowd. Insane.
I'm sure most "maxxed" hatchback owners are OK folks but its stereotypes that have come up from stuff like this that makes a lot of people want to keep their distance from them.

It would appear it's not actually the 'Max Power' cars but the attitude of your average 'Max Power' follower.
Incidentally it's happened to certain J-Tin car meets as well, apparently rich kid idiots in barried up 'dodgy' imports just want to hear the sound of their bean can exhaust and 'thud, thud' music (I use the term 'music' in the broadest sense!). Personally I find an 'age cut off date' of about over 10-15 year old is the best way to avoid problems (although if a genuine enthusiast club with newer cars contacts before hand, then of course they are also most welcome).
