sucks blue whale c0ck IMO...... agreed. our local one that work frequents had the printer down for a day and a half. we now have to post the MOT certificates to our customers also why did the ministry make it so the examiner has to twiddle his thumbs for 20 mins while the computer does its thing in the words of glamma kid "MOT? that sounds like robbery, rude boy, ya get me"

It's a real pain, I'm an MOT tester and it's certainly made life difficult atm. You can still do MOT's on an emergency system, whereby a handwritten certificate is issued. Trouble is we have to ring VOSA to get authorisation to do that, which is difficult when most of the country is trying to get through at the same time! All very embarrassing, having to let customers down is something I hate doing.

I took my Golf on Tuesday and as the computers were down I was issued an 'emergency MOT certificate' filled in by hand, allowed me to tax the car no problem. So, they are available, at my MOT place anyway!

i can't wait till the government's big anpr database and id cards goes live.... getting stopped by the police, "I'm sorry sir you can't drive your car as the computer is down. you might be in a different place to where we thought you were last Thursday, when it was last working. Do you have any ID on you? Ever so sorry but the computer says there's no record of you ever having lived, and has instructed me to shoot you"

...initially was very confused by my car as it was neither registered to me, and none of the numbers matched ;D However, in ten minutes, it was sorted out! Remarkable! I guess it's swings and roundabouts, but it's pretty cool being able to renew tax online due to it

dave - when you ring up a scottish bloke tells you the code is 6212380. then you go through the options and it throws you off. we're still putting ours in the machine, which will no doubt moan we aren't in official opening hours.
