Here are a couple of pics of my two pains in the motors, at last. My W115 Benz, looking a bit sorry for itself. But now satin black and not white thanks to sh*tloads of aerosol cans... And my latest! The Volvo 264GL. Still need to do the jobs for the MOT, but a really solid motor! The Benz should be going into the workshop next week, and I can really start getting how I want it (V8 transplant, a f*ckin good clean...) So the Volvo is gonna be my daily hack. It needs slamming over those (really mint!) alloys for sure. I was thinking either putting flames on the front, or painting the whole thing red oxide. It'd be a shame to cover the paint though, as it's so good!

agree with Mr_Bo11ox, don't paint it, especially if its good paint.
Red oxide and matt black are great at making a car one colour after repairs or to cover something grim, but good paint shouldn't be covered (IMO)

Thats a bloody great hunk of metal for 80 notes, good work! I bet it loves a drink mind you. I'd love to drive to Spain in it or something.

Yeah it'd pain me to cover the paint - it was resprayed about 5 years ago so it's all pretty tidy apart from the odd blister. It definitely needs lowering, and Wagoneer has sent me some good advice on that front. Plus I'm getting rid of that w@nk reflective strip on the back bumper. What's that all about?! It does love the old juice though - 18mpg is about the best I've managed so far. The bloke I got it off was determined he wasn't going to scrap it - he'd been trying to shift it for over a year and nobody was interested. Round here though, people just scrap motors rather than do minor repairs on them, which has probably prematurely claimed the lives of many a decent retro car.

burn the volvo so it doesnt steal the mercs modding money. Nooo! Don't worry, it's having nothing spent on it. But I need a hack so I can collect parts for the Merc. LewisK78 - it needs a couple of brake flexis and a suspension mount for the MOT, and there's a vibration on the propshaft but apart from that it's sound. 113k on the clock and it starts on the button! I think I'll suffer the prop vibration, but I wouldn't like to drive it to CARS like that...

well said nick, ive been telling him that for weeks. we should maybe bundle him into the boot of my car at the retro show, then drive him to a secluded spot and give him a severe chastising. or even " a clockwork orange" style of conditioning. show him loads of films with mercs in them, with a v8 revving soundtrack. ;D perhaps mr bo11ox could drop the water into his eyes. ;D

Red oxide and matt black are great at making a car one colour after repairs or to cover something grim, but good paint shouldn't be covered (IMO) Agreed! BTW, the propshaft vibration is probably a worn UJ or a knackered support bearing (assuming that it's a similar setup to an Amazon) & AFAIK, replacing them isn't that difficult

Hehe, cheers for the feedback! ;D
I know I have to get the Merc done, and I'm REALLY gonna miss driving it whilst it's off the road, but it'll come back better than ever in 2007 (or hopefully before). The Volvo is just to keep me mobile, and with it being retro it's a bonus. I don't think I'll be throwing any money at it, but my workshop will be 12 miles away so I'll need something to ferry me and my parts to it!
Tonycocacola will keep me focussed - if I don't get the V8 conversion done I'll never hear the last of it!!! ;D

I'm a volvo-head at heart, but i do like the Merc a lot more. The 264 is just like my dads old un, keep it blue, a liberal stick hitting and you got two seriously cool motors there.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Hey bout time with the pics! ;D Last time I saw the Merc it was just matt black at the front end, looks awesome all black with the chrome bits The volva is a stunner too, and while it would look cool in red oxide.... that paint is just too pretty to cover IMO! Its not as if its a bad colour, it will look super cool slammed with origional paint I reckon!
