Considering the wide range of ages of the people into this hobby or should i call it vocation, i was wondering what your ideal Retro car would be? Ive always had a fancy for a 60s Wolesley 6/110 in black, lowered, an engine uprated to maybe a Healy 3000 spec with some fancy alloys. Considering that there is a lot of interest in cars like Sierras and Cavaliers i would assume that peoples dream cars would be cars that they remembered growing up with. So what, given an ideal world, would be the car and mods of your choice?

Ascona 400 with no modifications.
Unless I happen to drop on a phase 3 400 engine, 'box and axle. In which case I'd be quite happy with my green Ascona with those fitted to it :-)
A Mk1 Mini Cooper S would be nice too.

Tricky.....
The main ones that spring to mind (ignoring the cars i already own) are:
Riley Pathfinder, with o/d 'box (90mph =3000rpm ;D ), converted to RM rack & pinion steering, and front disc brakes. Maybe subtle lowering, but otherwise visually stock :-)
Late '30s Riley Kestrel, with a supercharged ERA spec engine
Riley RM 2.5 short wheelbase roadster (ie a postwar version of the MPH / Sprite sportscars)

I think a knackered 100E van would do me as a daily knockabout. Something that wouldn't matter too much if it got a few extra dents.
The other plan was a '41 Willys riding high gasser style filled with a very heavy, very strong cage designed to counter the fact that most people are charging about completely carelessly in huge 4x4s, bullying everyone out the way because they are so big and would wipe out most smaller cars and kill the occupants because of the height. At least I would stand a chance in that and if it's heavier than the 4x4 then I will fare better so say Newton's laws of motion ;D

I'm not sure this would be my ultimate retro car but I do quite fancy doing a low, stripped out, caged & bucket seated Oxford or Cambridge. MG based running gear with the disc brakes (mine is soon to go that way) and an ultimate B series. Something like a 2 litre with a crossflow head and a blower Enough to suprise some of you old F*rd boys anyway

What i'd really like is something rediculously rare, like a Rover P6 jet car prototype (think theres about 4 in existance) i'd rough it up a bit, stick a roofrack on it and a few 'ive been to Scarborough' stickers in the back window and drive around with a gormless expression, and watch all the people that are "in the know" trying to flag me down Yeah, that would be sweet ;D But I think really what i'd like is a beige or blue base model Escort mk3 with full genuine RS1700T running gear ;D

Chocolate brown Datsun 510, slammed on coilovers over 13x8"/13x10" Equip rims, rivited on black arches, stripped, caged. Running a s2000 lump on variable length throttle bodies, 7 speed sequntial box. Oil cooler out the front and one inner light removed for an intake.
That would be nice. I have hundreds though!

Hmm ...
Mk2 Ford Escort RS2000, a little lower than Ford intended on Superlite's.
Triumph Dolomite Sprint, with some stick action running on Revolution RFX's.
Ford Escort RS1600i, standard.
Mk1 VW Golf GTI, standard.
E21 BMW 323i, dropped a few mm and sporting some modern BMW rims.
Split screen VW Camper, slammed on EMPI's.

Greedy, I honestly couldn't pick one but if I could own one car I've seen recently it would be the scabby ole Saab . I would dearly love a mint tax exempt 1275GT though, and probably an early 911, and my XR2 back, and a vitesse convertable and........

Too many interests to have just one. But it would be V8 powered.
