Removed the oil pick up and its a real sht job. I need to re assemble it all now, great... And most of all there was nothing wrong with the old one! but I had to check it. I was reluctant to start work again today as its such a nasty long job, but then I saw it from my window.. Checked pulley torque used 20/50 and porsche filter tried different relief valve new relief o rings changed pick up pipe changed sender unit only thing that different is engine loom with oil press wires - maybe this. Same shells , same oil pump ect only pistons disturbed. I don't believe the readings as the lifters are quiet all the time now, plus it flicks around a bit. (tried different clocks also) So anyway, fk knows why it has low pressure (1.5 to 3 bar), its being put back together with new oil and if its still low I'm just gona use it as is, if the bottom end fails - good il change it , problem solved.

Well thats the last of the fundemental checks so I guess the addition of the turbo has robbed overall pressure for some reason?
If cold is 3 and hot is 1.5 then thats the same 50% drop that you would expect in a 4.5 - 2.25 "good engine". It could still be a sensor issue so I think you are right to just get on with it now.

This is a fantastic thread - just read it all the way through in 1 go! You should be proud of the work you've done to this and everything you have been through with it! (but not the amount of times you've almost jacked it in ) Might see you at a Stanceworks meet sometime - I made it to the first one that happened in MK (I had the RX7 FC), and am part of LowlifeUK, but not been along since. Be good to meet you after reading the thread! (I now have a slammed white E28 btw if you see me around)

James, I appreciate your sense of "potential" Trouble is, I have been here so many times (just needs blown in) The 10j rear 18's help but weren't ready at the time of the pics. My little one calls the car "Willie". Hopefully after that whale...

looks bloody good from here Dave, bit of paint, and the rear wheels on - sorted. For those who don't know - this is Dave - who I got the shell and 85% of my bits from. The dual colour car is a non sunroof shell, with Turbo S running gear (bigger turbo), big MO30 brakes, dogleg gearbox, and being an 86 (no abs ect) light. Needabeetle- thanks, and you have too much time on your hands.. Lets see this E28. The n/a bumper with air flow for cooler, mesh to follow- img802.imageshack.us/img802/1071/cutplate004.jpg [/img]

Needabeetle- thanks, and you have too much time on your hands.. Lets see this E28. Haha, I finish work at 3pm most days (but start at 6) so when I'm not working on the car, seeing the missus or in the gym, I waste faaaaar too much time online! Worked through about 8 build threads this week (first time in years though). BTW, I hope you're going for black mesh? And I think the front would look meaner with the indicators sprayed/really dark black tint. E28:

Rarely post up but have to say this car/project thread is brilliant! Keep it exactly as it is in those last pictures, absolute perfection.
You must try and capture some driving footage when its on the road

This car is just stunning, possibly the best 9944 i've seen i now have a major need for a 944...
I would definitely rig up an auxiliary oil gauge, 20 year old resistance gauges are not to be trusted..

Thats a lovely example of a 944. I'm sure the front panel off a 924 turbo would really suit it.
OT of your car slightly but how easy would a VR6 engine drop into one of these. That should give decent BHP and a fair engine note.

Clarkson also praised the 951 as one of the all time greats . Looking great now that it is all back together. Talk about the art of subtlety .

MOT - passed with a handbrake advise I then taxed it and gave it a run in/test...first 200 miles good. 3 small problems, a noisy lifter comes and goes. It squats under boost so much the nsr arch now rubs on the tyre I have a noisy heat sheild under the car, rattles badly. I'm very happy with the performance so the growing list of niggles is a small price. When the niggles are gone and its tidy ive got the wants for a pressed louverd bonnet and some gold image BBM. Update.. I fitted new lifters and found that the cam box gasket was the oil pressure fault! It was letting the pressure side into the drain side! - now 4.5/5 bar cold idle! New lifters are quiet, and the rattle was not the heatsheild, it was the exhaust to wastegate flange broken - getting it welded tomorow. I need to sort the arch rub but it now drives exactly as it did before but with boost. Nice idle, smooth ect.. Realy getting there now, so nice to have it in use again.
