This is deffo jinxed, or i am. Seriously wondering why i bother.
Yesterday i finaly painted my new front spoiler as it was smashed by hitting a retard fox months ago.
Quite happy with the finish i left it to dry at a mates house and drove home, on the way i hit a deer which damaged the bumper and put a good dent in the drivers door.
Yes, after waiting 6 months to repair the front form one amimal, another stupid animal damages another part minutes later.
I was so angry i went back and ran the ****** over again, this resulted in an upset girlfriend/me not getting any last night, maybe il go run it over a 3rd time?
Car now has 2 big dents and a smashed bumper oh and some random scratches, no of which were self inflicted.

Bad news fella! I hope you get it sorted soon. Funnily enough I had a bloody deer run out in front of me yesterday. Luckily it just missed having an M3 shaped dent in its skull. Made me jump too!

Then sprayed it with a halfords aerosol again on my garden bmw black. Flatted with 1200 1500 & wax i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee369/sumpcracker/bumperpaint012.jpg [/img] Will be better but I don't have any compound atm.

Great to hear Gav, on our test drive with random settings it was very well behaved! Obvious spring rate increase made the fronts lock up when hammered. Glad you've found some extra tweaks in the set-up.
Gav drives very smoothe on the limit (as I found out...hee hee), very enjoyable and a pleasure.
We chopped out a couple of coils because the ride height was silly high. (even at min ride height). Christ knows the modded spring weight, but who cares? Rears are very soft in comparison with small bar, and ride height maybe 30mm higher - but on dry sticky tarmac, worked like a charm.

Some great updates on this! If you thought the cam timing was critical on the 2.5, wait until you put on in the S engine! I know when I had cam timing redone on the S2 (with a pair of dial gauges) it pulled beautifully all the way through (as hoopsontoast can back up ). I understand it can knock the power back by a notable amount. Regarding the flywheel TDC mark did you use a Porsche style flywheel lock tool or a bolt of a similar size?

Yeah dial gauges are definatly required once initial TDC is lined up (unless you get very lucky or have the time to play with it). The cam pully has only a few degrees in which to play with so its possible to hit the sweet spot by trial and error.
I like the idea of running 2 exhaust cams with an adjustable pully on each cam and a matching belt - but I have only read a few scant details about this set up.
I'll be pulling the head next week to determine the extent of the damage - aside from the obvious ripped off tensioner and no doubt 16 bent valves lol ... oh yeah and the toothless cams.

Thanks Dave, its not locking up the fronts so easy now, and got some extra camber, understeer seems impossible now. I quite like the slightly softer rear, I think this is the key to the rear end holding on, any stiffer and the rear can break away on a bumpy corner, I don't think hard suspension works on a fast road car, too many pot holes and wet roads. (just to let everyone know, rippednails is porsche dave- he isnt female often) James, no pics yet- but I'm back in germany for a while soon so il do some pics in the homeland. Chase, the timing will have to be redone on the 16v engine (bent valves as dave said), so dial gauges wil be used. As the engine will be heading for a high state of tune its important everything is spot on. I like the idea of 2 cam pulleys! none of the common chain fail! Pics of my euro tour to follow this week gettng on ferry monday night.

All the parts, exc 2 valves. (Daves store) He has supplied S2 cams, S2 inlet manifold and loom going on a good 2.5 S casting and bottom end with a chipped S ECU (to match timing gear) S injectors ect hope to see 200hp. Will have to get a second set of S pistons skimmed/domed to drop C/R when its all working properly, I'm going to use a mercedes charger.

Shame that S engine we stripped yesterday gave us a momentary sense of glee huh? Usual story, as if by magic the engine came apart at TDC so visable bores were minty mint but as soon as we spun the crank to reveal the other 2 then... First time i've seen no.1 so scored, especially at 3 o'clock (12 being inlet side...expect damage at 6 exhaust side.) Group 2 pistons so not useful to us as we only have group one blocks at the mo. What about those yank spec 944 pistons I showed you - low compression already (IIRC) 9.5ish. If we flycut valve reliefs in those pistons then we get a reduction in compression anyway, combine that with a cometic gasket - thickest available, then I reakon 9-1 on a 16V platform. Perfect for a modest SC application - say half a bar? Hopefully "The Count" will chime in on the 16v/8v boost debate. What d'ya think James? Is the planning (largely based on part(s) availability, overtaking the BEST course of action? Any 16V blown application has a sense of Kudos but at the end of the day, would an 8v approach be "better"?

My first engine scored a bore badly on no.2. EMC put it down to the engine overheating (oddly enough, most of the hoses were knackered and the rad was not the best item and a further digging into the history revealed I put engine no.3 into the car). I know with the endoscope No.2 was shot, but I understand that the other bores were not the best either. I don't really have any experience on 'charging' a 944 but I believe Pete Empson on the PCGB site has an 'charged S2 which runs very well indeed. Enough to make it more flexible than almost all 951s (bar maybe some 3.2 Turbos), and it shifts quite nicely too . The chains only seem to fail due to the slipper pads not being changed and oil changes being neglected. That and Porsche never made it a service item (most owners change them at 80k or second cambelt change along with the slipper pads to be on the safe side of caution). Either way, what a car .

Yes, No.2 seems to be the weak link in terms of oil starvation. So could be lack of oil rather then then cooling system so to speak. The damage we encountered on No.1 was "foreign object" like damage, scores being 3-4mm thick. Nothing like I have seen before.
I agree with you regarding no service interval mentioned for the chain. I just look back at my 2 stroke motocross bikes and remember sprokets being hooked and pointed because of a streched chain. I have a feeling that people address the slipper pad but thats not enough. The worn/stretched chain gets ignored and slowly starts sharpening teeth. I had a 16v recently with a new slipper pad. It had a damaged balance belt tensioner (worn bearing) and a missing cambelt tensioner gear. Each cam had teeth missing in groups of 3. To me, the cam chain took out the teeth, cambelt neglect killed the motor. Seen slipper pad gone with the chain riding on the steel tensioner...recovered the situation but again, missing cam teeth.
The pad is NOT the problem or warning sign - its the stretched chain....I guess people would like to think that replacing an easy doable plastic part gets them out of jail, but by just replacing this part WILL excelerate the already worn sprocket/chain affair...Who Knows...
I dissagree that the chains fail because of slipper pad neglect....its the other way around.
3.2 needs Darton sleeves ect....thats a different ball game IMO. Hopefully we can get away without the need for re-enginnering the fundamentals lol.

Or should I say - if the slipper pad is worn, so is the chain. Replace as a set.

I'm in poland now, after 900miles and doing 140 in Germany I have averaged 36mpg. and no issues so far. 944 is a great touring car, can't be many better classic GTs in the real world.
