I guess this isn't the type of rescue you meant, but it's a rescue of some sort! From this To this Brilliant! Its saved in the sense that its mobile again, and not squashed into a cube! ;D When I worked at a restoration specialist, we used to restore the most hopeless basket cases back to glory, it was really rewarding. There was one car, a Frazier Nash, that was half buried in a field! It was dug out, had EXTENSIVE renovation, and is now worth around £200,000. I never did get any pictures which is a real shame, cos we had some great motors going in and out

Before (1985 / 86): After (1993): Dad's old toy, a 1937 Riley 12/4 Lynx Sprite tourer. He bought it intending to do the work himself, but for various reasons (only one of which being that it was a complete shed), it ended up being done professionally by a top pre-war Riley specialist. Seated 4 in comfort, would cruise at 80mph with the hood down, and capable of over the ton with the screen folded flat, all from 1496cc! Chassis & running gear were ok-ish, in that they were rebuildable. The interior & instrumentation were notable by their complete absence, but by sheer good luck a complete set of instruments was found. The body was mostly scrap - with the exception of the bonnet, radiator, front bulkhead & centre door pillars, the rest of the ash body frame, aluminium paneling, & floorpan had to be remade. The wings were also remade in aluminium (originally steel). Most fixtures & fittings were either available new or sourced secondhand, except for the entire windscreen frame, which has to be specially made (quite complex as not only does it fold flat onto the bonnet, but the screen can hinge from the top to allow for ventilation when the hood is up). Sold in '95, during my parents' divorce. If I ever win the lottery, one of the first things I'll do is try to buy it back for dad(fortunately I know where it is).

This stuff amazes me no end, seeing 'junk' reanimated, rescued and turned into something mad or shinier than it was to start off with. That VW van looks amazing, and dave rapids bugrat thing looks like piles of fun. Amazing. Give me 25.8 years and i'll see what i can do with the shipwrecked MR2...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
