Happy Easter to ya all.....
Some of you guys have asked for some pix of my past "sins" and since I'm real bad at shooting pix of stuff I have owned and still when building stuff I all of a sudden when it's all done remeber that I should have shot pix, now I have an excuse since the dog ate my last digi-snapper but I have always been bad at this. During Easter a good friend & Hot Rod photografer for various Swedish and American Hot Rod & Car magazines came over with 1000's of CD's with old digitalized pix from the early 70's and untill he went digital and some of my rides during the time (1983-1994) in California was in there but since his prefference is Hot Rod & Custom no pix of the 57 356 Twin Cam Porsche, 190 EVO II Benz, Acrura Intergra or other "Euro Cars" were there but here are a couple of interesting cars & bikes and the stories around them.....
The anti-resto-rod 32. This car was built in the midst of the Resto Rod Craze early 80's when Brizzo put a Ferrari V12 in a 32 and full fender stock lookers were the standard at Rod Runs and I guess this is the reason the picture is snapped in the parking lot at Pomona, the car was not "welcome" among the shiny stuff!! It all started with the Pomona Swap Meet in the winter of 83 when I picked up a set of fenders for a 32 with nice patina, dents and everything, I bought a full Rod Shop 32 frame with Bell front axle and a 10 bolt GM rearend, coilovers in the back and leaf up front, nothing fancy. A 350/350 combo was dropped in, a Wescott figbreglass body, 3 piece hood and fibreglass radiator shell was fitted. The interior was plain, Bell 4-spoke, Moon gauges and a 32 seat covered with a blanket. This was pre "Rat Rod" and when my painter heard me say: match the body with the fenders he almost called for medics but he did and did a good job. The car ran on Centerline Convo's, Kelsey Hayes spokes, Steelies with 32 caps and Moon Discs but I was never satisfied with the look and sold it on, today it would have been in fashion......
The Beck 550 Spider was one of my favorite projects, I bought the complete kit, body & frame, bolted in a Race Shop 2.300cc Typ 1 with IDA's, a Rancho 5-speed, found some NOS tailights & gauges, a set of aftermarked Speedster seats in leather, polished 356 alu drums and chrome 5-bolt steelies. This car was a dream to drive, quick & nimble but was sold to finance the "real thing" a 57 356 Twin Cammer.....
Yeahh that's me driving ca 1990 and it must be at a Huntington Beach cruise, check the blue car in front, it was loooow, this was pre Air Ride. There's also an E-Type with GM V8 in the background, who's riding shotgun I have no clue to....
The Nova I only had for a short time (was offered way to much cash to not sell it), it was found almost as is but in a sad state in shop outside Barstow, the guys dad had raced it in the 60 & 70's but when he died the guy who was into bikes just dumped it out back. It was complete with a blown motor but a complete Hilborn Injection. I trailered it home and tore i apart, cleaned out dead rats, scorpions & spiders and stripped down, repainted and sign written just like before, bolted it all back togheter with a 350 LT1 motor and a 4 speed and I think I spent some 3 months just rebuilding and setting up the Hilborn Injection but man was it a clean car when it was done, ruppa, ruppa, ruppa cool. The picture is taken 1992 as I roll in with it at the Santa Barabara Concours d'Elegance, the first show for the car and also the last since it was sold shortly after and then shipped off to Japan where I hope it lives on.....
And a couple of bikes just because.....
The Twins started ot with the gold bike that I built for my good friend Mickey Rourke, it was then painted New York Taxi yellow and he liked it soooo much he used it in the movie Wild Orchid in 1990. Ater going to the preview of the movie I understood how much I liked that bike so I built The Twin for myself, I drove it for a while in primer but saw a Kustom Car at a show with some real heavy Metall Flake and found the painter of the car and talked Mickey into redoing the paint on both, plans were for gold on both but it felt a bit like beeing a "stalker" having a bike exactly like Mickey's so at the last minute I changed my mind and did mine in green. The only other diffrence is that mine had a black Bates seat, Bates headlight and a "Jockey Shift" otherwise they were identical twins.....
The picture is taken oustide Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas some time 93-94, the bike was sold before I left Cali for Sweden in 94...
