From another of my Retro Spotting outings Mk1 Goof I see about a lot - claims to be a GTi but looks a bit "Drivery" to me - might be just that the stripes are missing Escrote Ghia - you get a digital clock! How many of these were sold in the UK? 4? 5? Pug Wagon doing what it's meant to at MFI. Can't remember what "O" number it is. Anyone know? Lovely seventies DS on a cool French style UK plate at the front Immaculate 1300S Astra owned by someone at the local VX main stealer - someone else there has a Firenza type thing as well And I had to give this the award for most dirty Metro ever, even though it has no intrinsic value as a subject for photos

That 305 estate need an M16 transplant, and a whacking with 'the stick'... leave the rest as is, towbar and placcy wheeltrims and all..
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Good pics! Cornwall seems to be full of Pug 505 and 305 estates - driven predominantly by yokel carrot-crunching farmer types or their "comely maids". Usually with an interior that's been savaged by their 3 dogs and 6 kids, and bodywork that's come off worse in a fight with their tractor a few times... Doesn't stop me wanting one though. A diesel one. In blue.

My parents had two of these (but not at the same time...) & I think my grandmother had two as well. Parents' one were white, & iirc gran's was gold, but I don't remember them that well though as this was in the early 80's. BTW, are they front or correct wheel drive?

305s are FWD, looked at buying one many years ago but got put off by bizarre fanbelt arrangement which got me worried about French quirkiness. This was an early one, did later ones like the above get electric fans?
Quite a clean car the one I saw, but poor bloke bit embarrassed when his young daughter asked "daddy, is that rust?" about some inexplicable large hole in the windscreen pillar.

A good facelift IMO. Makes the original look more of its time doesn't it?
Is that bottom one GTX? Didn't they have a biggish engine?
405 Mi16 transplant FTW should be said now, shouldn't it?
Wow, look at all those question marks.

Bottom car is a GTX S5 (S for "sporty" apparently). 1.9 petrol engine 105BHP so not too bad at all. Engine is the XU9S unit so an Mi16 swap could be possible - sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeper!

Also the driver had the same lower stripes as the GTI. [/anorak off] ;D

Yeah the Golf does look genuine - just had a bit of a respray loosing its stripes in the process I guess? Deffo got GTi back seats & did the Driver have the black surround around the rear window? The 305s bring back some memories - my aunt & uncle had an 'RAF' blue GL or GRD one, my cousin their daughter campaigned it up until about a year ago when it was finally worn out after doing nearly 300,000 miles What is it with French cars - they feel flimsey when new & kinda toughen-up with use?

Drivers didn't have the black surround - but my old one had thin trim and I don't remember it having the side stripes, but I'd have to check as my memory is notoriously poor . The red car above does have all the right bits apart from the wheels and stripes, it just didn't look "right" to me - maybe a little high off the ground?
