I've been threatening to do this for months but I actually put the engine in today. Months and months ago Seth (recent new member to RR) lent me his comedy oversize engine crane some and has been kind enough to let me have it all this time. He has only just managed to break one of his engines so that is my prompt to pull my thumb out my bottom and get it back together. So this is basically what I was faced with - a multicolour Anglia rolled half out the garage. That's Seth's crane literally DWARFING my car. I reckon it could pull an engine out a cross-Channel ferry if he needed it to. I dropped the engine into the car in one go with the gearbox attached, just had to drop the steering linkages off temporarily to give me some more clearance: I had to jack the front of the car up off the ground and take the front wheels off to clear the MONSTROUS legs on this thing, but here's the engine in and half assembled. One Weber short: Heheheh, got clearance? I took an aerial shot to show how my recess comes into play. Now the engine is in the right place the back carb would be mashed into the bulkhead so with the extra inch and a half it is clear and I can get my fat hand behind it to do the bolts up: Gee I'm bushed... I also brush painted around the screen so I can pop it in which means I can wait before I spray it. I'll probably bum around in multicolours for a bit and spray it when the weather gets a bit better. And that pretty much covers it. If I get time I'm going to try and put the rest back together next week, get her fired up and let the neighbours know what they've been missing all this time.

Yup, it's as eye-searing red as I could find! It's so bright it seems to ruin all the photos I take!

glad to see someones ride coming together, I just keep taking more bits off the 02. like tonight, I thought "I've got half an hour, what shall I do?" so I ripped the auto box out in about 20 mins and cleaned my manual flywheel up for the other 10 ;D if you think that cranes a bit oversized, you should see spacekadett's one that was built for hauling big blocks or, bigger still, my gantry crane (normal engine cranes won't roll on my drive, so I use a fixed crane and roll the car under it). be great to see the angle box back on the road, keep the faith, youll get there in the end

Thanks bodiedude it's finally coming back together after all this graft. I can't wait to drive it again knowing that it will be faster, quieter, handle better, more shiny and more comfortable. Vert, that's a damn nice job. If mine comes out half as good as that I'll be pleased!

So is the crane OK? You gonna quit complaining about its ample girth? Glad to see its coming together - gonna be excellent to see it out and about again.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Thats going to go a treat! Strange - my mates got a slow burning Anglia project aswell, he's hoping to get a TB'd Zetec into his using many of RetroDave's components. The cars been off the road for well over two years now & the guys now living in Germany (the car still here in the Uk) So its going to be sometime before it sees the open road again. At least his time in DE allows him to accumulate money, therefore parts for a full-on attack on the project when he returns Its quite fitting as when his dad was of a similar age he had a Super Deluxe with full-on Carlos Fandago wheel arches banded steels & powered by a Lotus Twin cam - he was the 'Boi' round these parts in the early 70s ;D Is there a thread in the Readers Rides section on your 105e - I'm quite interested in your plans in terms of the chassis department.

Full race Anglia head on a +90 thou overbored crossflow bottom end, flat-top pistons etc so I get 1660cc instead of 997. Assuming it clears the monster lift on my cam I'm going to use the original pressed steel rocker cover too so apart from the 40's it will look just like the original lump ;D Edit: Derbydan you might as well ask away here, i've just done a couple of 'work in progress' threads in GD

I notice in the pictures that you still have the steering box - is that staying? Also what upgrades are you doing suspension wise... A frame, adjustable shocks, front struts etc etc? I have a real urge to get an Anglia myself (yes i've caught the bug ) My plan would be to just make one nice and usable - upgrade the suspension & brakes, prob keep the steering box, fit an injected Ka engine & fit my mates now redundent Wooler quick shift - that was lovely to use

The front end is a Milton world cup crossmember that has proper bushed engine mounts instead of the flappy old things. The engine knocks out about 140hp and just used to shred the original mounts so I was well chuffed when I saw it at the swapmeet. I was just going to use uprated mounts but it was there at the right price etc!
I've stuck with the steering box but got Escort RS2000 struts with adjustable springs and Capri solid discs. I used offset top mounts to bring the camber angle in and I got a mate to heat up the steering arms to bend them to the correct angle.
Out back I got some new leaf springs made up with 7 leaves instead of 5 and decambered by 2". Leda still modify lever-arm shocks so I got them uprated instead of welding in turrets. Doesn't really need the A frame to be honest. The new springs and bushes hold the axle pretty tight and it doesn't scrub like it used to on the originals. It's poly bushed all round now, complete curse word of a job but it is worth it for the amount of banging and crashing it takes away!
