I like the PT cruiser, I think someone here owns one. It regualary seems to get a pasting.
Oddly enough anything old and considered equally inpractical gets applauded.

Eh? I don't understand? It's American car styling that has influenced the styling and design concept of all cars for decades: Take the 4X4 concept - thanks to the Willy's Jeep idea Toyota initially followed the Ford Model T production line technique Look at the European saloon cars of the 50's and 60's and some 70's (e.g Cresta and Zodiac and even the Simca Marly) - American design influence Look at Capri - Mustang influence look at J cars - e.g 70'S RA28 GT Celica... definite Mustang clone wannabe. The list could go on and on The motoring world has a LOT to thank American car styling/design for!

Because firstly a bunch of footballers and rappers and wannabes will own them and make them look like chav cars. And what will happen (and is happening) is exactly what happens every time an American car is mentioned. A bunch of slack jouno's will write up how its another typical badly made, bad handling gas guzzler not suited to the european market or tastes. They'll romp on about how old fashioned and ugly they are. Read any UK reviews of the Chrysler 300C: Its slow, its ugly, it handles badly, you can't turn off the traction control so its not a true drivers car, over priced, it handles badly, its noisy, its cheaply made... So it does a 13 sec 1/4 mile off the showroom floor, 180+ MPH top whack, and with DOD it can make clocking on for 30 MPG which is better than most Jags/Mercs/BMWs of that size can... And it costs less than an S Type or M5... And the traction control off button is right next to the igniton key! (Yet Top Gear said there was no way to turn it off) And the quality of the ones I've seen (as in seen not looked at on the net doing some lazy journo "research") had nice paint, good panel fit and gaps and cool interiors. Better than can be said for the journo's favourite the Audi which often have badly orange peeled paint as stock! I've heard a Brit jouno has said the Cadillac CTS-V is a "typical American barge" yet the "oficial" lap time for the Cadillac round the Neurbergring is less than that for a BMW M3. I read a road test of the Subaru Impreza STi vs the Mustang Boss 4.6 Supercharged edition (2004 models) and the Mustang beats the Subaru on MPG!!! Yet which car will be slated for being a gas guzzler... This is why I give almost all UK new/ish car magazines and TV programmes a wide berth. Many of them just plain lie to make a good story, and Top Gear / Clarkeson is the worst for it. Poor or no research and then opinionated tosh. Makes me want to ring his smug neck. If you have that kind of position of "esteme" you should make the effort to be educational and informative and truthful. Not a lying, biggoted, xeophobic, swaggering cock sucker.

I'd agree with AlistairK about the stereotyping and dismissal of any car to come out of America, it's a similar sort of situation to the dismissal of anything Soviet that I was talking about the other day. Unfortunately slight xenophobia and elitism still seem to be features of British society, it still gives us a kick to laugh at Russians and former Soviets as vodka-pickled, dogmatic reds who make rusty, unreliable, outdated cars, we still love to see Americans as fat ignorant people with too much money and no idea about cars, hence we believe that their cars are all out of date, poorly built, gas guzzlers that are outclassed by anything coming out of Europe and Japan, and to some extent you still see the odd national stereotype of Italian companies who use paper thin steel and electrics that are beyond praying for (look at modern car mags' reviews of new Alfa Romeo models over the past few years and you still see petty speculation over build quality and complex electrics that you just wouldn't get with a German car, despite the fact that when they're reviewing the cars they have no reason to doubt the reliability or durability of the cars in most cases). Bloody pitiful really, when you consider that Britain's hardly the country to advise anyone on how they build and sell their cars, given our track record since the 70s.

balls, just wrote a long reply and summit cocked up and i lost it!! b*gg*r writing all that out again, i'll summerise... - love a good yank - Thanks for making me spill my coffee ;D ;D. Funniest comment I have seen for awhile With regards to the Scooby, Ram thread. I don't think the ram is the new impreza. From what I have seen its a different type of person that buys the Ram or ford harley. With regards to the thread hijack about american vs european cars. American cars are designed for a different market to european cars. I don't think of american cars as gas guzzlers when I was in america I did a lot of miles in V8 engined cars that were averaging over 20mpg with automatic boxes. At the time I had a Range Rover V8 with a manual and was returning 12mpg. But the general impression I got was that people had a completely different driving style they werent bothered about handling, they werent bothered about doing 100mph+ on the motorway. I was in one of the more hilly areas with fairly windy twisty roads (by american standards anyway) and basically most people would just drive with the cruise control on and enjoy the ride with no fuss and no drama. American cars can be made to handle very well considering the size but a big V8 muscle car is always going to struggle against a small light 4 cylinder in the handling stakes. So its pointless to compare. With regards to Topgear as has been said time and time again on here its an entertainment programme first a car programme second I don't watch it for being factually correct I watch it for Fun so its a waste of energy getting worked up over a comment that is made on it.

I watch it for Fun so its a waste of energy getting worked up over a comment that is made on it. Ah, but what then annoys me is the fact that tons of people believe what they see on TV and I geta ton of idiots (and evn mates) making rediculous statements of tosh and claiming they are true, even when I know a sight more about it that they do. I find it frustrating that its almost a battle of ignorance over information.

There is no 454 Hemi.
The 454 is the motor in the Chevrolet SS454 pickup. The RAM's Hemi is a 5.7 or 6.1 litre (348 cu in or 396 IIRC) SRT-10 has a 500ish cube v10 (8 litre)
