swallowed £900 of welding last year... ... I'm f*cked Not at all - that was two new front inner wing tops, new passenger side outer sill, repair to front passenger floor, & new outrigger & a few other patches - included rustproofing / underseal etc & topcoat where appropriate (that's now the only shiny paint on the car). Could have been done for less if I'd wanted it just to MOT standard, but I didn't see the point in getting it bodged.

my local garage is cool, do free retests as long as they can do at least the majority of the work (they'll let you do your own tyres and stuff). The mongdeo went through at the end of january on a "i've passed it to save you coming back, just make sure this gets sorted" kind of thing - should have failed on a bulb, rear tyres and summat else daft. It is a decent place though, always keep hold of the failed parts so you can have a look and we've never been ripped off yet.
they also 'accidentally' kept revving too high on the emissions test so it restarted 6 or 7 times till it looked like it was going to pass. Zetec engines are hell to get through emissions!
Scirocco is in the same place a week today, fingers crossed!

Seem to just have a bunch of life drop outs around here. When the Imps head gasket blew i took it to a 'classic friendly' garage where they insisted that it was a thermostat problem, not a blown head gasket. After much ringing around of Imp owners i believe it was Andy998 got me to ring em' to TELL THEM it was the gasket. They still didnt believe me so i let them to it, got call next morning froma sheepish spanner monkey saying that it indeed was the gasket.Picked the car upand they didnt charge me for 2 days standing aroundand looking at it.
Few months ago, took it to another garage down the road to have the rotoflex couplinks changed (after several people told me to not do it unless you purposly want to berid of your knuckles) where they told me i needed new front and rear pads. Fair enough fronts were shot so i did that myself, but rears were brand spanking new. Soord and Orf springto mind.
