Basically over christmas My Mk3 polo Gt was written off (slind in the snow into a Pole ) I absolutely loved that car it was awesome I just loved it. Anyway I went out and bought.....wait for it....... A saxo VTR!!! Don't ask why. Biggest mistake I've ever made. Anyway I'm sick of it so its going to be for sale soon and I'm going to buy something retro. I'm only 19 so thats why some of the stuff is low cc for the insurance. What do you's all think.

Yeah they really appeal to me just cos who expects to see a young short fat lad driving one. Plus there's always the distant dream of dropping a 2.3 turbo in

Hmm Saxo's and 106's are not that bad are they? bit tight in the foot pedal dep't i remember. I remember regretting getting a big car as it dunk more juice, less fun, and harder to push! LOL Mind i'm happy as larry with the Sierras. Now for me i'd too be tempted with the Volvo. the Golf seems the obvious choice for a 19 yr old, so i'm going with the hyundai, loads of scope for lowering, innovating and ford performance bits

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Capri close contender, would love another one, very low and long bonneted though...

I just don't like the image the Saxo Projects. The Hyundai appeals becasue of the Ford mechanicals but I'm put off by the fact it may not be that straight forward to modify.
At the moment the Capri is winning in my view mainly because I've always loved them and they're really easy to modify and make look good etc (think lowered on 7x13 minilites). Plus I've always loved classic fords

Triumph Acclaim.......heaps of potential when you can afford the insurance......

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

I voted for the Volvo (I'm a bit biased), although I think the insurance group is 14 or 15 . More for a boosted brick. Lobbing a 2.0 Turbo lump in is apparently quite straight-forward. Check out www.turbobricks.com for some very in-depth articles on turbocharging the NA B23 lump too! Glad you realised the error of your ways with the Suxo - you know going retro makes sense! ;D

Capri then. My mate whose used to Mini's drove us to Ford Fair a few years back, cost a lot in petrol cos he kept flooring everywhere, but that was only a 1.6 and it didn't hang around, recon the insurance would be cheaper than a VTR too.

My second Acclaim recommendation of the day! More scope for interesting thinking (because apart from Ishan almost no-one's done anything to them), they're fun to drive and good on fuel.

The Volvo is the quite expensive to insure. I've bought classic ford and now I'm hooked on capri's :-D.
I love Triumph acclaims. Its a toss up between the Acclaim and the Capri. I'll see I've gotta sell the "suxo" first

I've got three of those in the garage at the moment, soI reckon the Capri will be the best bet for you given the circumstances. Go for a Mk2 for added retroness, Mk1 cool with Mk3 practicality, and a grand will bag you a decent one. Ford parts interchangeability and tuning potential for the win, plus a load of specialist insurers.

LOL. The running costs of the volvo is the thing that majorly puts me off. I'm really tempted by a MK3 Capri. Although the volvo is appealing more and more. I'm so indecisive.

To be honest I don't think there will be much difference between the Capri and the Volvo running-cost wise.
